I feel kinda sorry for floyd

He has acomplished some good boxing things regardless if you like him or not, yet he still hasnt won over the American public.

I got the impression he was kind of jealous fighting hatton and oscar, because they both had big fan bases which he didnt have.

Why do you think Mayweathers never been popular with the american public? Is it his style? Discuss.

Because he parades around like an arrogant prick.

Disregarding Sugar Ray Robinson and says he is the best fighter ever.

Talks non stop about how much money he has, brags and flaunts non-stop.

      Floyd did this to himself.

he will never be the golden boy of american boxing in terms of all the fans loving him because he happily plays the bad guy during promotional hype.

he gets more money doing it but loses popularity, simple as.

It's a mix of his persona and his fighting style. Floyd has had very good outings against Arturo Gatti, Diego Corrales and Ricky Hatton. But overall, he doesn't guarantee excitement more than putting on a great Boxing performance (which in the end is what counts).

But the majority of people who pay big $$ for PPV or for tickets want action. Guys like Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez provide that type of action, but aren't the most outspoken fighters. Floyd fills that void as being the villan and plays it very well considering he's known to be a very friendly guy when the cameras are shut off.

            Floyd did this to himself.

            He did it on purpose......

For his part, Mayweather willingly takes on the villain role—as he puts it, "In this fight, there can't be two good guys. That's bull****. So I chose to be the bad guy. **** it." (In another clip, the puckish fighter looks into the camera and says, "Mom, I'm sorry that I use bad language, I feel so bad … but I'm gonna **** him up!")

Floyd is the smartest muther****a around...the dude knows how to sell fights.

Im not talking about selling fights... Im talking about being on ESPN and discrediting ATG fighters because they have a loss... saying he is the best of all time is a dissrespect to the fighters..

Walking around downtown flaunting all his money and throwing it around has nothing to do with fight build up..

                3 reasons:

                1) Very defensive fighter who doesn't brawl it out like fan favorites, like Gatti, do. He's too tactical and uses his skills in the most effective way possible( hit and not get hit at all).

                2) Too good, too dominant against his opponents, that makes ingredients to make boring one sided fights( Baldomir,etc...)

                3) Doesn't make mega fights against top fighters like Miguel Cotto, except an old but still good DLH and Ricky Hatton. At this point, he could have already fought Margarito, Clottey, Mosley and the real 147 pounds champ: Miguel Cotto.

                    3 reasons.

                    He is a defensive fighter.

                    He is outspoken.

He does not fight the best.

Being defensive is bad enough in casual fans eyes, but when you add the other 2 things to the equation you start to get the full picture. Most fans expect a smack talker to bring knockouts not fight a defensive fight. Rightly or wrongly majority fans dont want to see that,
