The Hagler vs Hearns fight is overrated

Im tired of hearing "will this be another hagler-hearns" "people are comparing this fight to hagler-hearns". Hey yea thanks for that helluva first round. But the tired fellas only gave us 2 more decent rounds. Ive seen much better fights that lasted more than 3 rounds to hype fights up with, but classics(old ****) plays into peoples minds i guess.

I agree, but at the same time, a lot of people who rate it so highly watched it live. That was a super fight, an event, and I'm sure that added to the excitement of seeing it and not knowing what was going to happen (as opposed to watching a tape of it years later).

That being said, Hagler-Hearns doesn't rank especially high on my list of best fights.

i dunno i dont see it as overrated. i think you thinkin about the comparison all wrong. the fight was hyped and they just came out and created great excitement for three rounds
i dont think people mean itll be hagler hearns as in one of the greatest fights of all time, i mean it is a great fight, but i think they mean like itll be hagler hearns, both guys are gunna come out swinging

i would take Cory Spinks vs. Jermain Taylor any day, over hagler/hearns.

I think you are right. There is nothing like being a part of a fight, what I mean is seeing it live, being there or watching live on tv.

Would any one get excited about an old World Cup or an old football game? It is just not the same thing seeing something years later vs being there. I agree with your point.

hell no, that was exciting as any fight that currently exists

The stature of Hearns-Hagler was also momentous, they weren't just 2 title holders. They were 2 legends who put everything on the line to be the greatest fighters in history.

                    It really isn't.

I mean, everytime I watch it, a part of me somehow wants it to keep going for a just a few mor rounds, but then I realise it's perfect as it is. It will always leave me wanting more, and I always think it's better to be hungry than over-stuffed.

I mean, not only is it a brilliant, fantastically entertaining brawl, but it was between two ATGs. Morales vs MAB 1 is probably the closest thing to it in terms of a fight being a combination of mind-blowingly entertaining, between two great, great fighters.
