In short,I think that anyone that thinks Ricky is much stronger could well be in for a surprise when they are actually in the ring together.
Hatton seems perceptibly the thicker, wider man. You can't legislate for the all-around strength that comes with Pacquiao's level of conditioning, though, so I agree in principle. They could possibly be closer to equal in that department than some expect. But how I think Pacquiao will suffer is from a lack of experience of, and ability to neutralize, what Hatton will do to him if this fight gets into that rough, dirty inside zone Ricky's known to favor, not just a strength/size deficit.

Hatton's failure to look good up at 147 has a lot to do with the natural welters being bigger and stronger than the natural 140lb guys, so the style he was employing against his better opponents at junior-welter, predicated on his bullying strength, was much less effective against someone like Collazo, who couldn't be overpowered by Ricky and could really box (being noticeably the better man in their fight, though lacking the power to take it out of the hands of the judges).
During his championship reign at 140, Hatton didn't fight many who could match him in the strength/size department...excepting Urango, who, for his part, is comparatively underskilled.

Mayweather is only the same size as Hatton, yet can be more effective against bigger guys by dint of his skills. That's the difference. When you go above your optimum weight, the more skilled you usually need to be.

TS, hav u seen the duran-hagler fight?

they look just about the same size back then right?

but hagler has been fighting at 160 way longer than roberto did before their fight... the fighting weight is the issue... not the tape measurements...

You know, Hatton may be the one who has spent his entire career at 140 but in all honesty, Pacquiao looked great at 147 against Oscar. I believe that 140 will be a better fit for him because by no means is he a small there.

Having said that, there is no real size advantage for Hatton. I think that's a major misconception people have. The only advantage hatton may have is the ability to bull him against the ropes. However, I don't think he'll be allowed to be "hugman" hatton in this fight. Nor should he, this is boxing.

you missed my point altogether. pwill isn't getting fights because of his height and reach which DOES play a factor in fights. I don't see what weight will do in this fight and the mayweather-jmm fight for that matter. yes, mayweather "weighs" more than JMM, but their height and reach are comparable so mayweather does not have a physical advantage. that is my point.

Hattons fists are huge, no they're not the same size. Hatton is bigger and its clear by the size of his fists.

Not necessarily true. My father has bigger hands than me but he's smaller overall.

Hatton is a little bigger, but people talk about weight as if it is the end all be all. This isnt wrestling. Weight has something to do with power, but we know that Pac has probably equal or greater power than Hatton. Dimensions like height and reach are huge. As far as reach I think Pac has the edge even, and height is about the same.

Hatton is naturally the bigger man. Theres no doubt about it, those who think otherwise are deluded!
