    Mayweather-JMM = Hopkins-Wright?

Does anyone see the similarities I do in this fight?

Mayweather and Hopkins are the lineal champions at the weight (147 and 175 respectively).

Both are coming back from a long layoff to fight a P4P elite in their next fight.

JMM was at 130 forever, and has been blowing up 135 for the last couple of fights, will be skipping 140 and will fight Mayweather at a catchweight.

Wright was at 154 for his whole career, and then moved up to 160... Didn't quite blow it up like JMM did 135, but he did get a disputed draw against Taylor (should have been a win to be frank). He moved up to fight Hopkins at a catchweight.

Hopkins won a hard bout, which Mayweather will likely do.

A lot of people gave Hopkins a lot of credit for beating Wright... obviously not 100% credit because it was not Wright's best weight, but...

I do see a lot less credit is being given to Mayweather for his win over Marquez (the way people are posting about it now doesn't make it hard to predict what the reception is going to be when/if Mayweather wins).

So... I do think you have to have it one way or the other. However much credit you gave Hopkins, I do think you would have to give the same amount to Mayweather.

This comparison actually made this matchup a little more legit in my eyes, hopefully it does so for other people too.

Not at all. Bhop was bigger and stronger, but Winky still put up a fight. Mr boat buyer will destroy and KO lil JMM if they fight.

You think Marquez is going to lay down and die?

An offensive specialist like Marquez is going to bring the pressure to Floyd... believe that.

More like Hopkins DLH. Except JMM will be 36 years old.

No. I like and respect JMM a lot. If they fight he'll come to win, but he'll get KTFO by Mr boat buyer. Period.

I see what you're saying, but I think Hopkins got more credit for being 42 at the time and 7 years older than Winky. Floyd will be 32 and 4 years younger than JMM. Pretty similar otherwise though.

The other difference I think is that Winky stood a chance of winning if he hadn't got his head gashed open by a headbutt early. I see no possible way JMM can pull it off. In his prime, at 130 or 135, maybe.

Awww, damnit, you are right... that is the hole in my analogy, the age.

I guess it's also true that a defensive fighter can move up easier than an offensive fighter, because punches hurt less moving up, but avoiding/blocking punches is still just as effective.

I dont think JMM is as great a fighter when he has to bring the pressure though. If an old Casa can win some rounds off of JMM then I think Floyd will win. I dont think it'll be a mismatch though. It's not like Floyd jumps on people anyway.
