IF it wasnt King how exactly did Tyson do it?

And why is Don King known as such a crook? was he just a typical promoter who kept more for himself and thats it?

Tyson's spending habits were his own faults.

Even if King did take a major cut of his purses, he led Tyson to the top of the earning throne.

It was Tyson's lack of business acumen or neglect of advice.

He was at a point in time where he didn't trust anybody and/or didn't know how to seek the advice of professional financial advisers.

Mike Tyson is just the latest mark in Don Kings career. A purse of 10 million can be cut down so that the fighter can receive less than a million by the time training fees, managers cut, taxes etc etc are taken out. A study of Tim Witherspoon might shed some light on Don King's creaive book keeping. The fact that Tyson was as dumb as a rocking horse didn't help. He had a team in place to look after his money one died and the other was marginalised andthen jettisoned by King playing the black card it seems.
Tyson might not have liked Clayton but he would have been a richer man today had he have kept him on board. Shame but TYson isn't the 1st to get his money taken and he won't be the last.

I think you'll find Tyson was champ and earning top level purses before KIng got his claws into him.

In the end it is Tysons fault he wasn't smart enough or shrewd enough to handle his finances. But King relentlessly screwed over his fighters time and again. If Tyson made a 20 million dollar purse, King would take half. And that was before taxes, so mike would actually end up with less than King. On top of this, EVERY expense was billed against Tyson's end of the purse whether it was tickets for Don's friends or luxory rooms for them in posh Vegas casino's and Hotels. all plane tickets and travel expenses, limo's to and from, resteraunt bills, spas and anything else you can think of was taken out of Mikes end. Positions were created for friends and family such as "president of the Mike Tyson fan club" and That salary would be paid with Tysons money. Anybody who is interested in the facts of Don King incredible sneakyness and how he was able to screw his fighters over, I suggest the books "Don King:his life and crimes", and Larry Holmes autobiography. Both will open your eyes to the side of boxing few outside of it really know about.
