when he could make twice or three times as much in a rematch against Hatton, Pac, Cotto, Shane?? Doesn't make sense to me. Marquez is a tough fighter don't get me wrong and I think he deserves a shot against Mayweather but from Floyds standpoint, why?
Why would Mayweather fight Marquez?

Hes been away for 19 months.
Why wait longer for Cotto who is fighting Clottey or Hatton who is fighting Pac.......or fight Mosley with no tune up.
What sense does that make? -
A marketable name on Floyd's resume with a small risk. Something we've become familiar with Floyd Mayweather as he's gained mainstream popularity.
But I believe his biggest challenges are ahead of him.Comment

I think it sets up Mayweather-Pacman well. Manny beats Hatton Floyd beats JMM the winners fight, sure why not.
Aside from that I think he believes he can win easily and the fight should do good business on PPV.
It will be interesting to see 2 of the really great boxers of this era fight, I always though Floyd be beat on JMM because Floyd was bigger but JMM has proven me wrong before.Comment

If you take the #2 P4P theory out of the equation, do you look at this fight as a competitive fight? Are there any advantages Marquez would have over Floyd being his climbing up 2 weight classes?Comment

Would it be fair to say that if another Weltwerweight were to retire and return for a tune-up that it should be against another weltwerweight?
For instance, say Miguel Cotto took the same hiatus off and came back and fought Juan Diaz, would you consider that a fair tune up fight?Comment

yep.....exspecially if he was planning to fight an opponent juan diaz lost to nextComment

Because it is a tune-up, although in many ways that's grossly unfair on JMM (who may well yet prove it with his fists). I honestly think any of the other three would beat Mayweather at present. He's been out of the game just long enough.Comment
