What do you make of Mayweather "retiring" when Cotto was at the top of the division, Margarito was the toughest bastard around, and there was a 7'0" tall freak who threw 1,000 punches a round all wanting a shot at him?

But then he came back when Cotto had already got the **** beat out of him, Margarito's reputation was in shambles, and Williams was fighting at 160?

(I was talking with Clegg earlier today and he brought up the above, and I figured it was too good not to make a thread for.)

There was convo about him taking time away for quite some time. Would it be the right time to do so following W in the biggest event in boxing history? I think so! But then Hatton( the next biggest name in the sport) brewed up a frenzy with his UK hype that garnered big cash for an obvious victory that gave him an opportunity to go out(vacation) with a ****! After Hatton who else should he have fought that would continue his streak of mega events?

Cotto, not in the same league regardless of what his fans and boxing heads think in terms of mainstream power! Margie, made his name from a youtube video! PW, has yet to break through!

None of these fighters would give him the next mega bout he wanted and felt liked he belonged in! So I think his plan was to sit back and let the cotto hype build so he could return and kill it! But we know what happened in the process. So who is the next big hype train in the boxing world? Exactly, Pacq! So every move that he and his camp are making is geared towards creating the mega bout between he and pacq!

This notion that he is supposed to fight everybody is BS considering he has been at it for awhile now. When you are at the top, you let the bottom fighters fight for the opportunity to fight you. they create the demand when they leave no doubt that they are next for the throne so the champ gets the reward and accolades together! Why is it so hard for you novices to understand this concept!?

That's the problem right there ; your dismissive attitude about Cotto, Margarito, and Williams.

Cotto was at the top of 147, riding high.

Margarito was making some noise of his own and still had his own audience in SoCal and Mexico.

And Williams was making noise as well, especially after the Tony victory. And "yet to break through?" for real? After the Wright fight, what more does he have to do?

The final part of the problem, if your final statment.

This is boxing. There are very few Ricky Hatton's, and Oscar De La Hoya's out there, in terms of drawing power.

You can't get mega fight after mega fight, after mega fight, all just served up to you. You have to let those things heat up to a boiling point, and then you strike while the iron is hot.

In the meantime, was it too damn much to ask that he at least one of the multiple opponets who were calling him out in his division?

Cotto said Floyd's name plenty of times, he basically always said that he couldn't make Floyd fight him. And that if Floyd didn't want to fight him, he wasn't going to waste his time. So he looked elsewhere.

And why does somebody have to call someone out in this anyway? We discussed this multiple pages back. What is this? Professional wrestling?

You're supposed to take on the top guys in your respective division, regardless of if they call you out or not. The best are always expected to fight the best.

Especially in a stacked division like 147 was at the time Floyd bowed out.
