Can / Should Carl Froch learn to become a better boxer?

We all know that Froch has weak defensive skills this was apparent when he doesn't keep his hands up and just leans back whenever a punch is thrown leaving himself open.

Surely learning a bit of defense wouldn't hurt him? even someone of the streets can learn the basic self defense.

There is nothing wrong with his trainer, his trainer was telling him what to do even telling him to keep his hands up and block with his gloves, maybe its just Frochs ignorance.

Ignorance which will cost him in a future fight, and then he will learn to defend himself when it could of been prevented before hand.

He also needs to learn how to judge better, he thought he was winning the fight and didn't really need to KO him, a little bit of urgency is needed for him to improve his chances against the top tier fighters of his division.

His iron chin made up for his defense but now he has to up his game, whether he has a chance against top fighters or not.

He can definitely learn more, he's only 25 fights deep.

I'll be curious to see him against slower fighters than Jermain Taylor (of which there are many). He's relied on reflexes a lot, which is, as we saw, a dodgy thing to do against someone that fast.

Froch v Pavlik would be competative IMO.

I was 50/50 on whether to stay up to watch the Froch / Taylor fight, I did I watched it on a justin.tv stream (The hidden one what was in the nature catorgory)

I would most certainly watch him fight Pavlik, and if he wins it would be great, especially how it would look on his record for his title defenses, its a fight he can win so he needs to do everything to make sure he does.

He's boxing since he's 9, he won't learn anything at all by now

I disagree with this. Only recently has he started fighting world class opposition, therefore he hasn't needed to improve his game until now. 25 fights is nothing, he's still learning.

There's a chance but him learning some technique is at 5%

He is very ignorant when in the ring. He doesn't seem to listen to Robert Mcracken (trainer) at all, or at least show it.

His amateur career shows a good record, which must indicate to having some skill, which in a majority of his fights he has shown nothing of.

Most important thing Froch needs to work on is defence. Taylor would not have won so many rounds early in the fight had he blocked his punches with his gloves, and not his face. Getting floored in the 3rd also showed poor footwork.

He relies too much on his power, which i can't see him changing, so as long as he works on a defence, i'd be happy not see him using some technical aspects to his game. As long as what he is doing, works successfully!

Learning to defend himself isn't an object he can't over come.

If he is serious about being a top contender he has to do all he can to improve his game.
