Roach knows more than anyone the danger of taking too much punishment in the ring...

I think they are over hyping the beating. Penalosa made Lopez look bad in the way that he threw record breaking punches but he couldnt stop the smaller older penalosa, roach had to do that for him. Lopez was clearly getting tired. Alot of those punches landed on penalosas gloves and he looked pretty damn well for being on the receiving side of a supposed "battering" and record breaking punches. I take nothing away from Lopez hes a good fighter and I was telling my friends he was a bad dude but IMO, gerry made him look lesser than what the media is hyping him up tp be.

I gotta agree with OP..it seems that Penalosa still has that one punch in his pocket that could end the fight..Penalosa was countering him and i thought one punch could have turned the tide..maybe im just being bias but Roach should have given Penalosa 1 more round..im so sad.

did you see that one punch that penalosa threw after the bell? juanma was looking him straight into his eyes before the punch, and after it, he was still staring at him... those counters weren't doing ANYTHING to juanma

Penalosa was taking one of those beatings that would manifest 5-10years later. roach did the right thing, Penalosa wasn't going to drop, but Roach may have preserved a couple years of Gerry's life.

penalosa didn't object because he understood the situation.

all respect to Gerry for standing up to that.

                    juanma is scary good though
