alot of blacks in latin america tend to deny they are even black due to the amount of institutionalized racism that has plagued latin america for a long time. Places like brazil, dominican republic, columbia etc have high concentrations of blacks, but they are marginalized, along with the native indians, so often times people think they are better off in society but just not saying they are black.

its not like america and europe where being black is a proud thing where people have overcome many obstacles, in latin america, those problems still exist. Kinda like how blacks in bolivia werent even reckonized as citizens until 2006, or how brazil was one of the LAST countries to abolish slavery.

There is nothing wrong with pac having taken the david diaz fight, however i am not going to pretend he wasnt the WEAKEST titleholder within the division. Whatever the plan was between pac/casamayor/diaz etc or the rematch with marquez matters little because you are right, de la hoya did interfere. What im saying is, im sick of people using diaz as a gauge of pacmans so called dominance at 135. This is the same guy i watched kendall holt starch in a matter of rounds, the guy is just not that great and is average at best.

david diaz was a top 4 lightweight. people talk to much crap about the guy because he got ktfo. if you look at the so called elite guys in the division , david is actually quite competitive with them in resume and skill yet he gets treated as if he's some bum.

he was 34-1 when he met pacquiao , was the wbc champion and had wins over emmanuel burton , jose santa cruz and erik morales (old and past prime maybe but it's still erik morales) and his only lost before was to kendall holt at 140. aside from casamayor at the time , his resume was on par or superior to most of the other elites in the division. whether he was the weakest champion or not it was still a good win and the fact that he has fought half of his fights at 140 and up and had a solid amateur career makes him good to gauge how manny would do.

whether you race your porsche against a ferrari or a toyota you can still gauge how fast your car is.

as far as pac's plan was at 135. who the hell really knows? fact is if floyd hadn't pulled out of the oscar fight , the oscar fight would not have happened. if he hadn't beated oscar , it's doubtful the hatton fight would have happened. who would he have fought at 135? probably the top guys at 135 with a tune up in between. that's what he has done his whole career.

pacquiao fought at 126 for a little over a year. from end of 2003 to 2004.

he had 3 fights at 126. the #1 and the #2 guy. (barrera , marquez)

joan guzman didn't make the top 10 rankings at 126 'til 2005 when manny already jumped to 130.

from 2005 to the beginning of 2008 manny fought 5 fights at 130 against barrera (#1 'til manny jumped to 130) , morales (#2 at 130 when they started their trilogy) and marquez (#2 behind manny who was #1).

joan guzman didn't become the top ranked 130-lber 'til after manny , marco , erik or juanma either left the division or retired.

morales fought at 135 to try out the division. it was his tuneup fight before the pacquiao fight which was still gonna be at 130.
