I saw Froch fight today and was not too impressed with him to be honest. The guy he fought had 3 days notice and he hit Froch with several punches. I think that Taylor will crush him with at least a wide UD.
I agree that Froch is tougher and has a better chin, but the same is true of Andrade (lost every round to Kessler) and Bika (lost clear decisions to JC and Bute). Toughness can only go so far.
I actually think Taylor looked pretty good in the Pavlik fight @166. He moved around the ring a lot better than in the first fight, and worked his jab very well.
Froch is better than Taylor in some ways, but I don't think he has an advantage in terms of styles. If Froch applied pressure for every second of every round, he might be able to get the job done, but he often stands just out of his opponents range, and looks to throw a single power punch from the outside. That will not work well for him in this fight.
Pavlik threw 845 punches, landed 267, and Taylor was still there at the final bell. Froch will have to top those numbers if he wants to wear Taylor down to the point of scoring a KO/TKO win. I just don't see him throwing enough for that to happen.
Seriously, just because he is fighting the great American hero Jermain Taylor, loads of people, most of whom have never seen Froch fight are counting him out. I think this is premature because
1. Froch is FAR tougher than J.T. This is not even debatable.
2. Froch has a better chin than J.T (Saying Taylor will KO him easily is ******, Pascall may be limited but he is a big puncher and he hit Froch loads)
3. J.T is NOT a SMW fighter. (whats he done at SMW? Lost to Pavlik and beaten Lacy who shouldn't even be allowed in a boxing ring)
4. J.T is on the Slide, he is NOT the same fighter he was 4 years ago.
I wouldn't say he is far tougher than Taylor, yeah he can take alot of shots but thats only because he has no choice because his defense is awful.
Taylor's toughness is underated.
He showed alot of toughness and determination against Hopkins late on when bhop was schooling him in the first fight, he did well to get through that.
He showed alot of heart and toughness mentally and phyiscal fighting kelly pavlik a second time, giving him a very good fight and lasting the distance.
Taylor isn't a massive puncher but he does have decent pop. If he lands his right hand frequently he possibly could take Froch out late on. I personally think it lasts the distance though.
All i can say is if Froch had troubles with Pascal then he will be in alot of trouble against Taylor who is a far superior boxer to Pascal.
one last thing, Taylor is not on the slide, he last two performances have been very good performances even though he lost to Kelly he put up a very good fight.
Froch has no defense at all, Pascal is good puncher but he's not a monster and in his fight before Froch he was wobbling all over the place. Froch couldn't hurt him, shows me to atleast some degree his power is overated.
Taylor is faster, smarter (this is not debateable, smart fighters don't put their hands by their waists without the reflexes to avoid punches) and has got much more experience at world level. It could be argued Froch hasn't even fought at world class level yet.
The outcome of this fight depends on one thing and one thing only, has JT still got it?
If he has then Froch is in for a long 12 rounds. Froch only wins this if an unmotivated, slow over the hill Taylor turns up.
I got my money on a JT UD, got 2.85 on it was happy enough with that, saying as he's not gonna KO Froch
this is s huge step up in class.the problem is froch has literally fought no-one apart from pascal who was a poor-mans lacy
his style is very amateurish and hes flat-footed,he is really guna struggle against a top boxer like taylor
