Being big and strong doesn't make you a champion. In MMA, former NFL player Bob Sapp proved that. Being huge doesn't teach you how to fight.

If size would be enough to be a great heavyweights, we should let the rugby players fight in Heavywieght matches too.
Their sport is more based on stamina and less on explosiveness than football players.
However, i think in the heavyweight division you have the right people in the right place. It's just that nowadays those fat asses lost discipline and that sometimes you have a golden era with too many great fighters( Duran, Hearns, Leonard, Hagler) and sometimes it's the contrary.
Its not based on size! Take the top NFL or NBA player along with their dedication, discipline, heart, and athletic gifts and transfer those talents to a boxing gym! Guys like Klitcshko would be irrelevant! We would see HWs throwing combos like a flyweight movement like wws with the same stamina and extremely entertaining bouts!

Not every football player or basketball player would be great, because they might have bad chins. But if you took the entire NBA all-star team and taught them how to box since they were young, then SOME of them would have good enough chins, and those guys would utterly dominate the garbage out there in the high weight classes in boxing today.

If Dwight Howard has a chin and learned boxing all his life, today he would be unstoppable in the ring.

If Wlad Klitschko played basketball from when he was little, today he would be Vitaly Potapenko.

Potapenko = the greatest Ukrainian basketball player of all time. Here are his lifetime stats:

          6.5 points per game
          4.5 rebounds per game
          no other notable stats

i think dwight howard would of been hw champ , sounds ****** but the athletic ability it takes for a man that big to be so cordinted quick agile , just seems like a winning combination.

a the same time i understand how that concept can seem ****** , interesting thread tbh

More proof that the greatest heavyweights are playing other sports.

Which weight classes are the most impressive today? It's the medium weights, like 135, 140, 147. What do all those weight classes have in common? Boxers who weigh that much are too small to play basketball and football. Without that option, more go into boxing, and they make their weight classes good.

Also, who are the two greatest boxers of the past 10-20 years? Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones. What do they have in common? Both their dads forced them to go into boxing whether they wanted to or not. Without the option to play other sports, they went into boxing and dominated.

                Excuses, Excuses, Excuses.....

You pathetic excuse-making crybabies need to shut the **** up, get on your knees and BOW DOWN to the superior Eastern European Heavyweights.

We also dominate the MMA heavyweight division

Fedor Emelianenko is the undisputed Baddest man on the planet, #1 p4p fighter in the world and Greatest MMA fighter of all time

Question: Why are there so few great or even decent Eastern European boxers in the medium weight divisions?

Kostya Tszyu was alright, despite being very overrated. But besides him, who's been the best one since the fall of communism? Roman Karmazin?

Why is that? Are all Eastern Europeans giants? Of course not. If you look at the stats, the average Ukrainian and the average Russian are both shorter than the average American.

Could it be because if they're 5'8" they still have to compete against elite athletes, while if they're 6'3" they don't because all the best athletes choose to play other sports? Seems pretty obvious.

i can understand both arguements however i was thinking and you can almost compare this and make it seem illogical.

so by the same token shouldnt a 6.6 player with incredible speed and power and coordination be able to dominate another sport such as hockey ? if that were the case shouldnt their be more african american hockey players ?

i bet alot of football players would look foolish playing hockey and vice versa

                    • Wladimir Klitschko is about as impressive an athlete as Matti Nykaenen of Finland, the world's greatest ski jumper.

How do you think Klitschko would do against Dwight Howard in any athletic contest other than basketball or boxing or any other sport they might have formal training in?

                      Running?
                      Jumping?
                      Weight lifting?

Howard would destroy him in every single one.
