Punch power will be increased if you have a target rushing head-on into the punch. It wouldn't take a hugely powerful puncher to take Hatton out if he was hit in the right spot at the right time. Floyd's check hook didn't look especially powerful, it was just perfectly timed, and with Hatton coming forward onto it, the power of the punch was increased.

Mayweather and Pacman have different styles of defense at the end of the day

Mayweather doesn't need to get in and out like Pacman will, because he can even nullify Hatton on the inside

co/sign Mayweathers defense is based on slipping, pushing and blocking. Pacquiao's is more of a "hard to hit" moving object, although he's using his hands more he generally just slips and ducks stuff with his hyper upper body movement.

Pacquiao has an easier chance of getting tagged since what he does is risky, but it also allows him to mount an assault of his own at any given opportunity, as opposed to Mayweather pot shot and counter style.
