Prince Naseem Hamed Overrated?

You're right, he never really reached his full potential but that doesn't take away from his wins, he beat quite a lot of top 10 guys and fellow titlist who had gotten stripped before fighting him.
I disagree about him having the wrong trainers early in his career though because I thought he was at his best with the Ingles, they knew how to control him, they knew how to get the best out of him, he should have never left them, once he left them, he rarely trained for fights and the trainers that he did end up with tried to change his style for the worse.
Remember Paul Ingle almost knocking his block off late in the fight when Manny Steward told him to change up. When he had been in control of the fight up untill then.
I mean WTF.Comment

Hes right in saying Hamed was one of the most overrated boxers in History? No he knows exactly what he's talking about and that's the truth. Kelly was way past his prime and Naz acted like he just won the ***in world cup after that fight.
Naz was a great young prospect, he had fast hands and very good power for a fighter his size. His problem was, he was ****y and believed everything his fans and media showered him with.
When he got in there with Barrera, a real great fighter, he was embarassed. I loved it because Naz was so dissrespectfull to other fighters beliefs bringing up the "Allah is the only true God and Mohammed is hi prophet" bull****. Leave that **** out of the ring, and he got his mouth closed for it.
He fought "cans" throughout his whole career?? Is that right aswell??
Kevin Kelly gave him problems yeah thats true,
so what??
The end of the day he Ko'd kelly big time.
Kelly caught Naz of balanced alot of the time and you cant say he outboxed him like MAB did.
Not making excuses credit to Kelly it was a hell of a fight and a bad showing from Naz.
He got his ass handed to him by MAB?
Yeah barerra outboxed him and showed his flaws alright,
but anyone who knew anything about Naz knew he wasnt prepared and had no interest in boxing anymore he was obsessed with the Attention and relied on his power.
I suggest you watch the documentary "Little Prince Big Fight,"
Barerra outboxed him out-classed him yeah whatever way you wanna put it but he didnt get his as handed to him.
Sure heres the Judges scores:
Chuck Giampa 111-116
Patricia Morse Jarman 112-115
Duane Ford 112-115
Pretty clear win alrigt for Barerra but not as bad as people make it out to beComment

There is a list of fighters he made better. They had natural talent but he made them reach their potential.
http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/George_BentonAfter he defeated Giardello in 1962, Benton thought he would get a title shot, but it never happened. Giardello's manager was well connected and was able to get Giardello a fight with world middleweight champion **** Tiger. Giardello's manager was Lou Duva. "Yeah, I screwed George out of his shot," Duva told Sports Illustrated. "He didn't even know about it til I told him many years later." Benton never fought for a world title, but he did win the Pennsylvania State middleweight title in 1964.
Benton's boxing career ended when he was shot in 1970
I should make a thread about him actually with one of his fights

I'm not really sure what led to him leaving, all I know is that they were the best trainers for him because they understood his style.Comment

The split happened cos Naz was getting bigger and bigger and making alot more money then he ever could of thought and Ingle was always intitled to 25%.
And Naz didnt wanna pay him,
i also heard he started to become very disrepectful to Brendan Ingle towards the end when he started to get bigComment

Exactly my point brother. I dont hate naz but what im saying is the truth. You have to be blind to not see it. He bought his own hype and had a rude awakening. Sad but true.No he knows exactly what he's talking about and that's the truth. Kelly was way past his prime and Naz acted like he just won the ***in world cup after that fight.

Yeah, it just didn't work out with Steward and Suarez, changing him to a more fundamental boxer was the wrong way to go.Comment

Like I said, Naz the phenomenon was becoming uncontrollable on multiple levels. And money was undoubtably a part of the split, as Naz spoke afterward of Brendan being "greedy". The growing influence of Naz' family over time didn't seem to help as far as turning his head aginst Brendan, either. To your latter point, you could see that break in the respect between them (especially Naz for Brendan) in the corners in their later fights together. There are 2 sides to every story, but I think Naz made a big mistake leaving Brendan and was probably most to blame for it, if blame can be apportioned. The split happened cos Naz was getting bigger and bigger and making alot more money then he ever could of thought and Ingle was always intitled to 25%.
