Kevin Johnson vs. Monte Barrett on May 15

I honestly think (and I've said this before) that Kevin Johnson is pretty underrated. A jab can often be enough for heavyweights. Plus he is pretty quick and has more pop than his record indicates. Not to say he is a big hitter, but he just routinely showed that he just didn't particularly care if he finishes his opponents when they were hurt. He took a lot of criticism for that, however, and has shown a change of heart in his last few fights. He will beat Monte fairly easily. It will be a 9-1 type fight. I wouldn't even be surprised if Johnson stops him.
I don't really like Johnson because he has constantly made for boring fights, but I'd pick him to take a decision (in a fair world) over some of the other emerging contenders such as Arreola and Povetkin.Comment

Also, to follow up, I didn't get out how little I think of Barret. In complete honesty I'd pick Tye Fields in a rematch. THAT is how little I think of Monte. The dude in his prime was at best an equal to low mid level fighters like Joe Mesi. Hell he couldn't even be competitive with Rahman. He lost to Lance ****ing Whitaker and got knocked out by Cliff Couser. Barrett's KO of Fields was just one bad fighter catching another early in a fight.Comment

Wanna see an exciting, young American heavyweight? Meet Travis Kauffman, at 23 years old and 16-0 (13 KO), this guy is going to make a lot of noise soon.Yes, it would be good to have another younger heavyweight as a contender. Johnson lacks power, but has some very good boxing skills including an excellent jab.
I've heard another young heavyweight, Malik Scott, will be fighting Tony Thompson on an ESPN Friday Night Fights next month, but I haven't seen confirmation yet.

Travis Kauffmann got knocked down in his recent fights but that happens to up an comers ya kno? Kauffman's part of that Odlanier Solis, Johnnie White, Bowie Tupou, David Rodriguez group that will come to focus in a few years. Anyway I see Kingpin Johnson winning UD with two knockdowns but Two Gunz Barrett makes it entertainin like always.Comment
