Froch is actually about one of the most un-hyped fighters (with any degree of success) there is above 135lbs. Most of what little Froch 'hype' there is is from Froch himself and, frankly, he's nowhere near as good at it as Haye is. He won the belt by earning a shot at it and putting in a true warrior's performance again Pascal. Is he good enough to take Taylor? Nobody (including Froch and Taylor) knows, but he chose to go fight Taylor in his own yard as his first defence, which deserves respect in my book.

If JT loses big to a relatively unheralded Froch, he will be 1-3 in his last four fights, and 3-3-1 in his last seven.
He could easily still have a career but immediately after the Froch loss he would likely be bumped to gatekeeper/opponent status, being lined up against young contenders looking for a name on their resume that will get them a title shot. I'm not sure that's a role he wants after being at the top of the sport...
Like you said, he would never want to drop to being a 'gatekeeper' type like Lacy and Judah. If he was to lose, i'm sure retiring would be heavy on his mind.
Winning however, plants him firmly in place to take on the best again. The winner of Abraham/Pavlik (should it take place) or a unification with Bute or Kessler does wet the appetite. As it does if Froch were to win.
I think it's fair to say his career is 'on the line' from a standpoint of fighters that matter.Comment

He would be much sharper in a rematch. As for Kessler, he may be known as the best at 168 by many, but he has not proven it, and the longer it takes to fight someone meaningful again, the quicker it will take for fans to disappear.Comment

I will heavily favour a Bute decision in a rematch. Before the controversial finish of the first fight, Bute was winning comfortably in my eyes, but got dragged into Andrade's game and suffered (but got off good).

His grandparents on his father's side were Polish ***s (not his parents, Wikipedia is wrong about that, according to interviews with Froch himself). But the origin of the name is Austrian.Comment

Seriously?
I'd like to hear your thoughts...Reply?Comment

If this was two years ago, pre-Pavlik losses, Taylor wins this hands down. A tall, pressure fighter that works behind the jab and comes forward is bad news for Taylor, and Froch fits the mold. In terms of pure boxing ability, Jermain Taylor has the edge, but I see this going late rounds KO 10 for Froch. Froch has power and a chin that Jermain is going to get frustrated with when he can't hurt him. I wouldn't bet on Taylor here.Comment
