Would you call Calzaghe legendary? I'm a Calzaghe fan, but even though he's a sure fire Hall of Famer, I'm not deluded enough to call him legendary (except maybe in purely UK terms). His résumé just isn't good enough. Thousands of people are in the Hall of Fame, but only the top 100 or so of all time are normally regarded as legendary - not even all of them.

Who said he gets more credit then DLH for a Herndez win?? I didnt say that. It was a great win for DLH too. Look you can say DLH took more risk and all that, but you only say that because he lost or had alot of close fights. Just because Mayweather is 5 times better then anybody boxing right now, doenst mean he didnt take risks, he just that good.

DLH fought a lot more hall of famers. And there were no obvious fights that boxing fans wanted him to take that he didn't take.

Just out of curiosity Malcolm, why would you actually want to see one fighter get beaten into retirement? I can understand you wanting Mayweather to win, you like him, he's your 'boy' right?

Wanting to see any fighter destroy an old legend and 'send him into retirement' though is just wrong. I can't remember any single Calzaghe fan actually wanting him to knock Jones out. I think they would have all preferred it to be a close and great fight just so Jones could hang his head high in retirement.

Anyway, on more important and less sad issues, I don't really care for this fight. Marquez doesn't have enough left to beat Mayweather and is just way too small to overpower him, so the fight won't be a good one either way. It will be a boring 12 round fight with Marquez looking all of his 36 years. He's become too easy to hit and moving up to even 143 is just a bad idea for him. I would like to see him end his days at lightweight with some great wins or one last fight with Pac at 140.

This is like Oscar vs Pac except reversed. Mayweather (Oscar) is the young, prime fighter at his natural weight and Marquez (Pac) is the old, slowed down fighter moving up. Obviously the size difference as great as that but with the age difference and Mayweather's reach, height and weight advantage......

Just a pointless fight. What I really don't understand though is why Mayweather would even take it.

This is like Pavlik turning down Williams, when Williams called out Pavlik, saying 'You've got to be kidding. If I fought a WW, I wouldn't get an ounce of credit. If I beat him I would get more ridicule than praise'.

He should take a tune up, if that's what he's calling it, with a guy like Berto, Collazo or Bradley or someone like that. A guy that doesn't pose a huge threat but it would still be a good fight and would actually be an understandable opponent. A decent young champ at his proper weight instead of an older small guy moving up even more.

Before anyone says "But Marquez is P4P 2!" well, that has nothing to do with it. I wouldn't want to see any WW or most 140 pounders in with him. He just ain't the right size and doesn't stack on the weight like Pac can.

Anyway, let's just hope it doesn't get made. Marquez can make betters fights elsewhere.

He was the man in the sense that he held the lineal crown and had had one very good win (but also one loss) against Spinks. But as well as losing to Spinks, he'd also lost not that long before moving up, to Tszyu, in devastating fashion; and apart from Spinks, he had not beaten any leading Welterweights. So if by "the man" you mean "the recognised champion", he was, but if by "the man", you mean "generally recognised as the best Welterweight out there", then no, the jury was still out. And his subsequent string of losses against every leading Welterweight he's faced has shown that he was not the best Welterweight out there. He was a genuine lineal champion, but was only looking after the belt, he didn't really own it. A bit like Michael Spinks, when he was the lineal Heavyweight champion, but not the best Heavyweight out there.

Having said that, Mayweather's win over Judah was a very good win, and one of Judah's better performances; but all of the current top 4 Welters >>> Judah.

My point is exactly the same as before. Like it was the case with Erdei, this is a wrong comparison. Spinks held one belt and Mike picked all the other belts (just like Roy Jones did) in the division. There was no one like that in the welter division at the time, until Margarito in 2008. Judah's claim to be the man at 147 was clearly over in 2006.

Also your reference to the Zoo fight as "not that long before", is not quite accurate, because we are talking about 2005-2006, whereas Judah got sparked in 2001.

And finally, what happened afterwards to Judah is not relevant in judging if he was the man in '05.

Mind I don't care about ranking how good Judah was, or how of a good of a win he was for Mayweather. My point is that I don't remember anyone in 2005 suggesting that there was a welterweight better than Judah.

You guys make predictions, don't get it right then after the fight happens critique the hell out of everybody and act like you knew what happened, would happen before it happened. Fact of the matter is that these guys want to fight let them fight. I read before the Winky/Williams fight that Winky would school Williams and then once Williams won then all these excuses came up on why Winky was rusty and wasn't 100% him self?

It's nothing like Oscar-Pac. In effect, Oscar came down for Pac. He was previously fighting at 154, 160, etc. They both kinda met in the middle. Oscar hadn't fought at 147 since the Gatti fight.

Berto offered Collazo a rematch but Collazo priced himself out of it:

DiBella had tried to make a rematch between Berto and Collazo but HBO was offering the same amount of money as they did for the first fight. That created major problems since Collazo was demanding more money for the rematch. The only way Collazo would get more money is if Berto gave up some of his own - and Berto wasn't going to make less for the rematch than he did for the first fight.
