    Donaire-Martinez/Viloria-Solis Discussion Thread

This is going to be an exciting card of evenly matched fights. I think both of these fights could go either way.

I haven't spoken to Nonito prior to this fight because he's been in the Philippines but I spoke to Viloria last month and he understands this is the most important fight of his career. This fight will not only be a turning point in his championship caliber status but will also determine whether he can ever truly win over the Filipino fans the way Donaire has.

Viloria's big advantage over Solis' past opponents is that he has one punch power and an Americanized boxing style. Archie is no slouch in either department but he hasn't been facing the rounded fighters like a Viloria.

Donaire is the favorite to beat Martinez but Martinez is no joke at all. IMO this is a much more dangerous, versatile opponent than Darchinyan. Martinez has the boxing skills to land big shots on Donaire so hopefully he's fully focused and properly conditioned.

I am very interested in these fights. There could very well be two upsets.

From the accounts, it sure sounded like Donaire had some issues making weight, and him saying this is the last fight at fly doesn't sound good to me but still he's an excellent fighter.

Viloria is maddening to watch at times. He's got all the skill in the world, in the past he's been outworked.

I am picking the favorites but an upset in either fight wouldn't shock me in the least.

              I agree.

I think Viloria will be the aggressor here and Solis the counter-puncher, though we may see several role changes. Viloria has the power and intelligence to get a lot of work done in close and if he can get there and remain comfortable and confident, he can pull the upset.

I agree, Viloria is frustrating because he sometimes seems stuck between styles but since getting with Robert Garcia, he has reverted to his most successful style of all-out war.

Nonito has been having trouble making weight for a long time, I've even expressed my opinion that he needs to abandon 112 before the Mthalane fight. He made the weight by a half a pound but I am concerned that he might have overshot the weight.

I wonder how much time he had between the weigh-in and the fight to rehydrate. This is going to be a fight between two bantamweights/junior-featherweights for a flyweight title.

Regardless, it's ridiculous because I'm sure he's taking a lot less money than he should for a (perhaps) foolish risk.

That to me was knockout of the year, cong**** to Viloria. I think he should try and unify in a rematch with Sosa. I would say stay away from Calderon because Calderon might have his number.

I thought his power was the main story but at times he forgot his jab and didn't work the body inside enough. Once he started setting up those right hands up top with the body work, Solis was a sitting duck. He should've stopped Solis a lot earlier; Solis hung around way too long for what Viloria was doing to him.
