hatton is a powerful puncher but he often smothers his work and doesnt get enough leverage on his shotsComment

The question is what is being scientifically measured, and whether in the case of all the fighters that have been mentioned it is/was the same thing. According to what seems to be the standard measure, top dog was Rocky Marciano at 1,000 psi or so. Bruno came in around 880, Tyson at 930. Now, according to that same measure of punching power no sane person could believe Hatton would score 900, let alone 1,500. Hatton punches as hard as Tyson did? Er, no. If he did he would have KO'd all his opponents within 2 rounds. You can 'verify' everything, but if you measuring different things, then comparisons are meaningless.
Likewise, comparing Pacquaio's '300' with Hatton's '900' is equally pointless, as they are obviously measures of different things.
Either way Pacman doesn't punch that hard in 1 punch KO power, just look at his recent heavybag hitting videos, his punches are pretty weak even in comparison to how Hatton hits the bags.Comment

Some of the tests only measure the power of the punch at the point of impact, they dont measure the follow thru. He technically doesnt hit as hard but it will show that he does.Comment

Those machine things are **** anyway i remember seeing some guy hit one really hard and he got an awful score the machine was playing up as i did a jab and got a massive score which was just ****** then i hit it hard and the thing registered 0 lol, those things don't mean much.Comment

The only undisputed scientifically backed evidence in this thread is what Hatton hits and what a 200-240lbs looking boxer on Fight Science hits.Comment

Fulcrum 29 posted a BBC news report that showed Hatton's punching power was measured at 400 kg (882 lb.)
Here it shows where they measured Frank Bruno's punching power at .... wait for it ..... 400 kg. How is that possible?

@ 400kg Hatton is really a light puncherComment

Hatton was on a English soccer programme as a guest called Soccer AM and they tested him on one of these machines compared to an average male, he hit it 13 times harder.
They also had another boxer/fighter (can't remember, wasn't a massive name) do it and the average male beat him, the boxer jabbed it for some reason lolComment

Haha i remmember that....it was Evander Holyfield that jabbed it...he didnt really try but it was more of a cross punch lol.... heres the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJxCi...eature=related
I remember hitting about a 860+ on that machine in coney island. Do I think I hit harder than Holyfield on account of that? Hell no. That machine doesn't measure punch power, all it measures is basically how fast you can knock the speed bag into the back of the sensor but doesn't measure the true punching "power" of a follow through with the weight of the boxer's arm behind that punch that's why I've seen a 130lbs kid who throws a very fast punch hit a 820 or so on those machines, do you think a 130lbs can hit harder than Holyfield? Of course not like I said that machine only vaguely measures speed more so than power and you also have to learn to connect your punch at just the right part of that speed bag too.
Some punchers punch a lot slower like Foreman and would register a whopping PSI on a real punch test but would hit a low figure on that ****** machine.Comment
