    Weigh-ins

This may sound like an utterly ridiculous question, but why do weigh-ins take place the day before a fight and not on the same day as a fight?

Because people fighting in divisions they don't belong in, will get seriously hurt.

Well if u make the weight the day of the fight, doesnt that mean u belong in that weight-class?

I think it supposed to give a fighter an extra 24 hours to lose the weight if he's over the limit.

To protect the fighters. It's been shown that the majority of serious brain damage in boxing occurs when fighters are dehydrated. The theory is that if the weigh in is a day before the fight, it will allow the fighter to rehydrate.

Obviously this rule change has allowed for some fighters to fight in weight classes they probably otherwise couldn't, but nonetheless it was done to save lives.

Take Margarito and Paul Williams for example, if Margarito was 147 fight night against Cotto, you'd think Margarito will make it the 12? Hell No, same goes for Paul

Then it would mean that they would HAVE to fight at thier correct weight class. This is the way it "should be"

                  Possibilties
                  1. Weigh ins the day the fight happens= dead people
                  2. Weigh ins like now = people being 15pounds too heavy
                  3. Weigh ins right before the fight =show doesn't go off,cuz 1 too heavy

                  2. is best, but still sucks
