Was PBF right? Merchant knows nothing about boxing?

I remember that Larry Merchant after Floyd knocked out
Ricky Hatton, it seems as though Larry had no idea what
the check hook was when he interviewed PBF right after.
Another observation was when PBF mentioned Judah as a
FRONT RUNNER and this of course is used in horse racing
but, again Larry Merchant seemed oblivious to the term.

Alright, with that being said, let's bring back the
CHECK HOOK highlight reel (NEW) And was just uploaded
earlier today.

"Check Hook" is hardly ever used as far as boxing commentating or journalism. It might be used a bit in the gyms but you don't hear it too often.

The guy is ancient and has been involved in boxing longer than mayweather has been alive, so of course he knows a lot about boxing. He might not know all the terminology or may be off on some of his predictions/opinions, but he clearly knows boxing.

Fortunately, Ricky Hatton had the good grace to get lamped with it again against Lazcano so those of us new to the concept could say 'there it is - check hook.'

Essentially, it seems to be a punch that only gets landed against Ricky Hatton. ****, now I'm thinking about it, did Malignaggi landed lil' ickle version of check hook himself?

I might rewatch Hatton-Magee. I bet Magee check-hooked his arse as well. He certainly caught him lunging in several times.

I guess I am going to have to rewatch some of those fights too. Maybe Team Mayweather knew that the check hook was the ticket to floor Hatton because Floyd sure threw it a lot. I wonder what Manny has instore for Hatton. lol

I hardly doubt that a guy who been on boxing centerstage for more time then most boxers were alive for would know nothing about boxing.

And to be frank, I always knew about the concept of check hook(as it is something that back footed fighters like myself get taught quite early o), but only known that it is actually called check hook maybe two years ago.
