He fought well early against Lewis as he did against Witherspoon and Bonecrusher but gassed and lost. 1st fight against Tyson he was fighting a Tyson in no sort of condition and had he have had any confidence should have given Tyson a lot more trouble. 2nd fight he looked even more terrified and was the title holder at the time. No against any top 10 fighter who is there to win it Bruno will lose.
Bruno could punch. He's considered one of the hardest hitting Heavyweights in history. Tyson's chin is well known and Bruno wobbled him two or three times. Weight really has nothing to do with it: I've seen way too many big fighters who couldn't hit for ****e and two many small fighters who could knock your brains out. Remember Bruno only has to land flush on Wlad's glass jaw once or twice and the fight's over.

Frank Bruno was never remotely world class, he was manufactured a title nothing more.

As I recall he wobbled Tyson once in the 1st fight. He hit Tyson who was off balance with a great shot and Tyson wobbled. You hit an off balance fighter with a good shot he should go down. Virtually every heavyweight who ever lived got knockouts when matched right and Bruno did get matched very well. Name one fighter who was in condition that Bruno even knocked down? I liked Bruno and saw virtually every fight a lot of them live but I realised that once he realised the guy wasn't going to fall over the first time he hit them he was gone. Considered one of the hardest hitting heavyweights by who? Don't think he makes ring's top 100 p4p punchers, Holyfield and Walcott do and neither would be one of the 1st names that leap to mind when thinking of big punchers. Sure he had a lot of knockouts on his record, so what,he was well matched and it was realised that he was going to gas if he went the distance.

That list that you refer to was top 100 BEST punchers not hardest puchers: Punching power is only one of a number of factors that were considered. Don't confuse the two. Read any source you care to choose on Bruno and practically the first thing mentioned is his power. You make Bruno out to be some kind perrenial loser when in fact he lost only 5 times in 45 fights. And who did he loose to?

                Tim Witherspoon
                Lennox Lewis
                Mike Tyson twice
                Bonecrusher Smith

The first three are clearly top-notch fighters that Bruno could be expected to lose to (along with 99% of other Heavyweights), the Smith fight Bruno was stopped after he clearly had gassed out. Among others, Bruno stopped Quick Tillis whom some dude named Tyson couldn't stop. He also has KOs over Jesse Ferguson and Carl Williams: Hardly chump change. Carefully matched? How is that any different than any other name fighter early in his career. You think Tyson and Lewis weren't matched up with guys that could make them look spectacular? All fighters considered top prospects are matched that way. It sounds to me like you're holding Bruno to a standard that you do NOT hold anyone else to.

Bruno didn't get KTFO by Ross Putridty and Corrie Sanders.

Interesting match up.
wlad would have been much too quick for the slow and ponderous bruno

Well Tillis he stopped on cuts and Tillis was not exactly undefeatable, ok he made Tyson look bad, so what, by the time Bruno fought him he was an opponent pure and simple, 1980's Bugner beat him before Bruno. Fergusan had a couple of decent wins but again was an opponent. Ditto Williams who Bruno fought a couple of months after Tommy Morrison had beat the granny out of him. If they had any realistic chance they wouldn't have been in the ring with Bruno. Looking at Bruno's fights before he was given his 1st shot against Tyson. Tillis, Chuck Gardner, Reggie Gross then an ancient overweight Joe Bugner. Do you really think that he deserved a shot given that opposition? On paper his record looks ok he only lost to world champions but he was never risked against anyone who could realistically win until he got that title shot. Terry Lawless just happened to make 1 error against Bonecrusher.
I agree that good prospects are matched to pad the record but is a man fighting for the title a 4th time still counted as a prospect? And does beating Fergusan, Rodolfo Marin and Mike Evans earn you that 4th shot?
Give you that ring was best punchers but its kind of fly **** and pepper can you think of any hard punchers who sarn't on that list, I'm struggling.
