in terms of money dlh didn't get played, but in terms of legacy, he got played... and dlh was embarrassed by a former 106 lber... that's just disgraceful.

De La Hoya Retires!
this are De La Hoya´s words: “These last four months have been very difficult for me. I’m announcing my retirement. I’ve been doing this since I was five years old. Boxing is the love of my life, boxing is my passion, boxing is what I was born to do. When I can’t compete, it’s not fair to me and it’s not fair to my fans. I’ve come to the conclusion it’s over inside the ring for me. My decision is based on a lot. Now I understand why athletes have a hard time. My life will continue to help the sport grow.”
it´s a got time to end his career.he faced the elite of the sport like Floyed Mayweather Jr., Hopkins,Shane Mosley, Felix Trinidadand, and many more.. he made a lot money...Comment

arguments on oscar's ring accomplishments will never cease; not today, not 50 years from now. people are different from one another, the mind works and thinks differently for everyone. we have each other's opinion, wants, needs, and so be it.....Comment

a very overrated fighter, if not the most overrated of all time. money maker? yes he was!!! but a great or even good fighter? NOT! a fan favorite (la & tx)? YES!! won against class "B" and "C" fighters and OLD champions to claim his titles, losing to smaller SSM-PBF-PAC really exposed his talent and heart!!!
Yeh Whittaker REALLY looked old when DLH beat him didnt he?
What the hell are you going on about?Comment

when all is said and done, who really cares how much money he made? He and several generations of his family are financially secure, thats great. However, unlike so many other big names there is no questions about who Oscar should've fought or complaints about his competition. He fought the best and was competitive in all but the Pacquiao fight. Whether you like the decisions or the outcomes is moot. De La Hoya fought the best throughout his career and because of such, he made himself a household name and a few bucks. This is the type of career so many others should strive for. The only person I see actively doing the same thing now is Paul Williams. Too bad WIlliams didn't have the same momentum when he turned pro.Comment

I'm a black man,but I can honestly say that I shed a tear when Oscar annouced his retirement. He lived the american dream, came up poor then ended up ****** rich. But what impressed me most about Oscar was the fact he didn't constantly have to keep bragging how great he was in the ring.He didn't try to verbally pound in your head that he was the best.Oscar was a true competitor and went out and fought the best.Though it didn't always come out his way,he can still live with himself knowing he did his best and left behind know questions. If Roy Jones Jr was to retire right now, could he honestly say the same thing? How about Mayweather? But yet, they yell at the top of the mountain that they are the best.Please...the best at doing what? All fighters should have Oscar's mentallity in this sport. To be the best you have to fight the best.Oscar is not the most skilled fighter I've ever seen, but he does have one of the biggest hearts.Hopefully he will guide the young fighters he promote in the same direction. These champions and top fighters do know justice to the sport by ducking each other.Oscar is an inspiration to young people and I hope my son will be at least half the man that he is.That's coming from a man that was a Roy Jones and Mike Tyson fan in that era.I'm just one who knows the difference from a real good entertainer and a real good fighter.Comment

Wow, all that money and he's not in the clubs making it rain, or spending millions of bling, rims, and cars. What's wrong with him! LOL.
To be honest, Oscar will still be caking it in as the head of GBP. He will make probably just as much per year while just sitting back and relaxing. Now THIS is what u call a smart business dude. Isnt he promoting, or Co-promoting the Hatton/Pac fight? Dude is a business beast!
Farewell Oscar. You might not have been the best, but u sure gave the sport your best. Thanks for the memories and your dedication to the sport.Comment

By the way the fights w/PBF and Pac were after Oscar was "10 YEARS" past his prime. Go look at old tapes of Oscar or you tube his fights. Oscar was way faster than what you have been getting from the last couple of years.
Win or lose there are no Oscar fights that should have happened that didn't.
Name me 5 fighters more skilled that took o all comers like Oscar in their prime.Comment
