On a plaque at the United States Military Academy at West Point, is inscribed Gen. Douglas MacArthur's famous: "Upon the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds that, upon other fields, on other days, will bear the fruits of victory."
MacArthur was an early student and steward of football, advocating the forward pass while he headed West Point. The general was also instrumental in helping to spread the sport throughout high schools in the U.S. Football was seen as a conduit for instilling character and moral fiber in young men, as well as, in molding young people for possible service in uniform.
Excellence, for many, involves taxing their mental and physical state in the form of boxing or sports training. The late, great trainer Cus D'Amato opened and ran the Catskill Boxing Gym in upstate New York, and provided free training to kids and young adults. For Cus, boxing instilled character, excellence, discipline, focus, and integrity in a person.
As the 19th Century Irish writer Oscar Wilde deftly observed: “He lives the poetry that he cannot write. The others write the poetry that they dare not realise.”
We find songs suited for hard, dedicated, and laborious training in the boxing gym . . . for those that are daring enough to live out and realize that "self-instilled sacredness."

# 9. "Road to Glory" (Instrumental) - 2Pac
My road to glory is filled with thorns
Fearing thoughts from my brain and I train to remain strong
And can I give it up? I'll be a changed killer
My thoughts will make you feel the pain of a trained killer
Please believe that I'll never be shamed again
But can I leave the next heavy weight champion?
Call me crazy but no one can fade me
I'm the product of the projects
Lost and crazy
Throw your hands up Mr. Bruno, why?
Big Mike Tyson bout to brutalize that a** tonight
No hesitation for the whole nation
I beat that a** so bad I'd probably violate probation
Through demonstration as I strategize information
And intend to kill so it's real like I'm catching cases
Ha-ha
I let the world know I plan to die
If I don't leave with what I came for I'm leaving high
# 8. "No Comparison" (Instrumental) - 9th Wonder & Buckshot
# 7. "ASAP" (Instrumental) - T.I.
# 6. "No Easy Way Out" (w/ lyrics) - Survivor
We're not indestructible,
Baby better get that straight.
I think it's unbelieveable,
How you give into the hands of fate.
Some things are worth fighting for,
some feelings never die.
I'm not asking for another chance,
I just wanna know why.
(chorus)
There's no easy way out,
There's no shortcut home.
There's no easy way out,
Giving in can't be wrong.

Though his body says stop - his spirit cries - never!

Paradox that drives us on -
Its a battle of wills, in the heat of attack,
Its the passion that kills -
The victory is yours alone.

"The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become." - Charles DuBois
