Paul Williams vs. Miguel Cotto

Paul Williams is just to skinny. He's good because he has an awesome workrate, but if they get to his body he's in trouble. I just dont think skinny guys can take as good of a punch when put to the test. He has to really use he's height advantage. Quintana has good reach so that worked for him. I think Mosley can beat him, because he also has good reach advantage and can take a punch.

I was a Tommy Hearns fan and I believe Paul Williams has the same advantages and disadvantages from being tall, but skinny.

That if has yet to be shown in 38 pro fights. Williams doesn't fight tall, he is an inside fighter. If Cotto tries anything inside against Williams, the fight would be shorter than that loss to Margarito. Margarito is not all that in the inside and you saw the outcome when Cotto got anywhere near the inside against Marg who is shorter than Williams.

I agree Jennings didn't count, but I think Miguel now believes that Marg used loaded pads on him and that might give him enough confidence that he wasn't beaten fair and square.

Williams is a tough fight, however, regardless of Cotto's state of mind. I think Williams is so hungry for the fame, accolades and the money that comes with it, that he will overcome anyone placed in front of him. The Quintana fight really opened his eyes. I guess you could say the same for Cotto after losing some luster after the Marg fight.

I'm still going to go with Williams on this one.

williams is too tall for cotto... williams should be fighting legit 168-175 and leave the 147 to the small boys..

Look at the punch output of Margarito against Cotto. He thrown 987 punches. 647 of those punches were power punches. 237 of those power punches were landed. Compared to Cotto's 395 power punches thrown and 179 landed.

Williams out punched Margarito in their fight, almost doubling the output. Margarito threw 654 punches that night. Williams almost doubled that with 1256 punches the entire night. Throwing an average of 105 punches a round.

Double Margarito's output on Cotto. That would be Williams output on Cotto (If we go by numbers). 1974 punches would be Williams output on Cotto. Williams also had a 205-165 edge in power connects against Margarito, nearly doubling Margarito in that catagory as well. Double Margarito's power output on Cotto..... 474! That is the 5th ring of hell.

Just by the numbers. The analysis of Williams -> Margarito -> Cotto. Is near perfect because Williams and Margarito are almost completely identical.



Cotto just cant handle that kind of assault. Its his weakness. He cant fight well against the relentless attack of swarmers with reach, power, an awkward style and a good chin. Then add Paul Williams' southpaw brawl.... cotto is in for hell.

U cant base this just on numbers of what they did to one fighter. First of all I guarantee you if he fought williams theres going to be a different gamplan since hes so tall with marg its just stright forward and hit him and move. With williams since hes even taller its slip his punches and get on the inside and do some work . I guarantee you if there on the inside cotto would do way more damage than williams would do to cotto. On the outside thats different if paul stays on the outside hell win a Ud or late ko if cotto is able to get inside( which i think he will because williams doesnt really use his height winky was inside all the time and hes not a power puncher unliek miguel wholl be hitting that body with ease)then I think Paul would be in the fight of his life

I don't mean to offend,but I'm tired of people saying Winky is not strong,this is the same Winky that worked over Trinidad and we all know,we all knowTrinidad hits wayyyyyyy harder than Cotto,Cotto is probably more skilled than Winky,the Punisher and Trinidad,but in the end they are all bigger than him and have to much physical advantages for his skill to overcome!!But the Punisher beats them all!!!!

It could also have been the worse thing because I think everyone's going to avoid this guy from now on. Even Shane, who just beat Margarito convincinly, said he doesn't want any part of this guy. I think his next move would be for Pavlik. I don't think Arum would match Cotto with Williams, too risky for so little.

He might have to move up to LHW.

I think Paul Williams by split decision. Its a toss up IMO. Cotto could present many problems for Paul if he can keep the fight close for the most part...if not then Paul can use his boxing skills and keep Cotto at bay. I doubt any KO's but if there was one I'd think Paul would deliver it.
