Me personally feels Hopkins ten years ago, would have smashed Calzaghe and Taylor to a TKO. He was 40 years and Older when he got these loses, and it wasn't in his prime. He is more of a defensive wizard, when back then, he could do everything.

What im going to ask is do you really think Calzaghe and Taylor are better then B-Hop prime for Prime????
    WHAT???

Hopkins gave Taylor too much respect in that fight, that's why BHOP lost. I wouldn't say he got his ass whooped though. That fight was like a chess match.

Calzaghe? Calzghe who? If Joe was a real man, he would have given Hopkins another opportunity so there's no room for misinterpretation. But he didn't, so that's that. Calzaghe didn't whoop on Hopkins. He beat him, but he didn't beat him down though.

With the greatest respect dude, that's poor logic. Is Hopkins equally as close to his prime having just come off one of his best wins?

To be honest I think both guys were 90% of what they were a few years earlier. If Nard woulda gone ahead with the fight in 2002 I think it would have been very close, as Joe wasn't a polished or tactical. But he handled Mitchell pretty well in 03.

But, if you think of what made the Hopkins-Cal fight so close, it was Hopkins sheer experience, spoiling, defence, running, countering. He was right imo to go down that route even more with Cal as all those things are a nitemare for Joe, but it still wasn't enough.

In 02 for eg. Hops would have been slightly more involved, throwing a little more, attacking more, and I'm afraid those aren't thing that are a nitemare for Joe, those are exact things he WANTS.

So yes, I'm afraid I would favour Calzaghe in say 02, perhaps not a few years earlier as he wouldn't have hit his prime and be as accomplished. But in most periods, Joe takes it.

The only version of hopkins that had any chance of beating calzaghe is this one. The older Hopkins would have opened up more and took a beating.

The only reason Hopkins lasted was his what, the 136 x he held Calzaghe. Britisher tv said Hopkins held 136x over 12rds.

The only reason he lost to taylor was because he met a fighter more negative than himself.

Pretty silly logic as Hopkins just beat Pavlik in a career best showing.

Hopkins is in his best form Wright, Tarver, Pavlik, Calzaghe and lost only one.

I dont count his small guy wins.

Hopkins has never taken a beating. He may have lost but he NEVER took a beating. The fact that JC only won by a split decision says everything. I personally scored the fight for Calzaghe but it was more because of what Bhop didn't do than what Joe did. Hopkins controlled the way they fought for most of the 12 rounds and Calzaghe only won because of workrate.

                    Taylor, clearly not
Joe would always be an tough matchup for Bhop, he's incredibly awkward to fight, I'd slightly favour Hopkins prime for prime though.

If it had been a competent referee and Hopkins had lost points by the 6th for his holding i cannot see him making it 12rds.

If Hopkins fought Calzaghe and the referee did his job, Calzaghe does a number on him.
