JC was obviously close to his prime since he was coming off his best win in Kessler.

And bhop threw a ton more punches in his prime too.

It wouldnt of mattered who he was fighting that night when he took on Calzaghe. With that gameplan of hold, hold, headbutt, backup potshot, hold some more, he would of had an ugly close decision with anyone.

They would have always had close fights. Calzaghe and Hopkins are as good as each other, IMO. Why some can't just be fans of both these guys is beyond me. What's with the thinking that you have to be a fan of one or the other? F'king ridiculous! Both are great fighters.

When was Calzahe's prime though? He doesn't seem to have had one. I think his mental prime was from 2006 until he retired. His physical prime though? It's hard to tell because he has never slowed down or lacked stamina, only his hands have been crap over the last 5 years or so. I have no idea when Joe's overall prime actually was, however, I don't think it was when he was 36.

Me personally feels Hopkins ten years ago, would have smashed Calzaghe and Taylor to a TKO. He was 40 years and Older when he got these loses, and it wasn't in his prime. He is more of a defensive wizard, when back then, he could do everything.

What im going to ask is do you really think Calzaghe and Taylor are better then B-Hop prime for Prime????
hopkins has never been "whooped." even against rjj, he wasn't whooped, he LOST, but was not whooped. IMO, hopkins can fight for another 5 years if he carefully picks out his opponents......my favorite fighter, but if you throw him in with chad dawson, he might get whooped.....

I think calzaghe was at his best against, Kessler, Lacy, and Hop. He was a better fighter when he put more speed into his punches. He wasn't as fast in the past as he is today, he just had more power then. He punches different nowadays, well slaps nowadays.

'Nard would find a way to take away Chad's best weapons. This guy is just too ring savvy to lose badly to a youngster, although he is likely to lose to fast fighters with a high activity rate and a good chin. He doesn't get whooped though, period. Too smart for that ****.

kidding me? you're using the age excuse with hopkins? i love hopkins and all, but he's defying the age issue with good health. i don't think it was cos of his age but because of his over cautious style. i love hopkins, one of my favorites, but he just isn't a busy fighter when the other side is being busy. judges aren't hard to fool nowadays (it seems)

i'd never say 'nard has "no chance," but i think a fight w/ dawson would look a lot like wright-williams did. hopkins would have plenty of opportunities to counter chad, but i think chad's best weapon is his "punch output," and i don't know what hopkins could do to limit that.....

I do think it's because of age though. Yes, age hasn't affected him as bad as others like Roy Jones so the age excuse can only be used so much, but Echols was pretty active and devastatingly powerful, BHop didn't seem to inactive in either of those fights. Hopkins got into some hard exchanges against Trinidad even, and his power was proven at that stage. Glen Johnson was known for his workrate and Hopkins used his own to nullify Johnson completely. It was around the 3rd Robert Allen fight that BHop started becoming more cautious and his punch output started severely slowing. Then he adapted his style slightly to suit him better.
