    I didn't like that **** at all...
Ali was great, but he is overrated. The man did lose. Definitely ranks in the top 10 easy, but most people act as if he was unbeatable. Hopefully nobody misunderstands this post.

I can be one of those people who often make him out to be unbeatable, I have since changed my tune - there are a select few that I believe would beat him. Prime Frazier did beat him, as did Norton. Frazier was 204 lbs in the first and most significant fight. It's the Foreman win that makes him look amazing, but look at the circumstances, extreme heat + Georges poor stamina....probably the greatest win in hw history, but take that one away and he seems very beatable.

But Ali was better prior to his exile and would never regain that form again when he came back.

I think he gets a ton of credit because of what he did after his exile despite not being the same fighter and people counting him out.

Circumstances/factors do play a role in some of his wins but that is life. It should be mentioned as part of the full story; I agree with that.

But he was never a technically sound "boxer." Prime Ali was like Prime Jones Jr in many ways. Ahead of their time but still had flaws.

one thing that is not talked about ali though is the fact that he was a huge cheater and elbowed and held his opponents head while rabbit punching constantly and no ref ever penalized or warned him for it. big time cheater.

I have no problem with Larry Holmes, but that was a bit disrespectful.

I didn't see much elbowing or rabbit punching from Ali. Holding behind the neck, which Ali often did, was illegal though.

Well he did loose but he also fought damn near everyone. I mean he fought the best from 2 or 3 eras. Everyone from the generation before (patterson, Moore, Liston) all the way up to Holmes when he was the one that was shot and everyone in between. When you are that active and fight everyone eventually you will loose, but over all he came out on top of a very good era.

You say definite top 10 heavy but come on he is a lock for top 2 heavy and I and many others have him ahead of Louis based on resume and predicted head to head.

There are some guys who fought everyone like Holyfeld and DLH but didnt always win. Then there is Ali who fought everyone and won more times than not.

Yeah he was dirty, especially in the foreman fight and the ref didnt do anything about it at all. I mean credit is due sure for pulling that off but he did everything he could to stack it in his favor including illegal tactics which the ref ignored.
