He was always one-dimensional, then his injury took away his dimension.

Jeff Lacy is a bizarre study. He has been given mythic levels after being exposed for being exposed. It is strange. There was ALWAYS a very vocal crowd that said Jeff Lacy was what he turned out to probably have been. The only time he looked like anything special was against an aging Robin Reid. Every other fight he looked questionable at best. People constantly pointed this out too. Yet, after the Calzaghe ****, that segment was erased.

People talk about how he was the next huge thing (and don't get me wrong, there was a very ****** and loud crowd proclaiming that too), but all the sane people knew his limitations. Now the Calzaghe people prop him up to argue the greatness of Joe, which does a massive disservice to him. Doing so is basically a lie and makes Joe look bad by association. The truth is that we didn't know how good Joe Calzaghe was. We knew Lacy was questionable, but we still thought he might win as Calzaghe had never really impressed either. THAT is what makes that result notable.

I mean christ, is he was REALLY viewed as the next Tyson by people in the boxing know-how, don't you think HBO would have showed a tiny bit more interest in him? That have 10x the budget of Showtime, but they didn't give a **** and let him stay over there because we knew an exposure was inevitable and there was no point in building him up.

So is he shot? Well... yes, but that is misleading. He did have a great left hook in terms of impact and the shoulder injury seemed to take that away. He wasn't really going anywhere huge long term with it anyway though.
