Are "handsome" fighters predisposed to fame and glory?

A handsome, or rather "telegenic", guy is going to get more chances. Which provides them with distinct advantages , if they use them correctly. For example, guys like Oscar, SRL and PBF got good contracts very early in their careers.
Those contracts enabled them to focus solely on boxing and not have money problems. How many times do you hear about boxers taking jobs or bad fights because they need the money?
Also, their looks enable them to make money outside of the ring and to get high-visibility engagements that bring in fans, and that helps their careers. It's all linked.
It is no coinkydink that guys like Oscar, Leonard and Floyd have been among the VERY FEW boxers to get national TV commercials. Hagler always made the effort to look sharp and groomed.Comment

Na, let's not forget Oscar wasn't handed the position he is at now. His mother died before he made it to the olympics so he already had that interesting background story to him. I'm sure there's plenty of Golden Boy-looking boxers out there who will never be where Oscar is. Being good looking doesn't get you more privileges and in front of everyone else. I think good looks or not, Oscar earned everything he has with hard work.Comment
