You guys are smoking if you think Miguel Cotto can train
himself and beat a defensive, durable guy in the ring like Joshua Clottey. Clottey lost 2 fights only. One by a DQ and a 2nd close fight with an injured hand with a guy that beat Cotto by TKO? Cotto would be smart to get a good trainer that can teach him a new trick or two to go in the ring with. Clottey is solid & not to be taking lightly. Why do you think Cotto and his uncle had the beef/fight? Because Cotto knows how important and tough this fight is for him and wants to do things different to elevate his game. Evangelista is just not that guy and Miguel Cotto knows it. You guys should read between the lines more & be a lil more observant in my opinion.

Arum said Cotto’s new trainer would not be Hall of Famer Emanuel Steward, whose name has been speculated widely in the Puerto Rican media. Steward trains WBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and will be in Germany preparing Klitschko for his June 20 bout with David Haye, which will occur a week after Cotto’s fight with Clottey.

One man who will be considered, and who may even be the front-runner, is two-time Trainer of the Year Dan Birmingham, who is based in Tampa, Fla. Cotto plans to fly to Tampa on Wednesday to begin camp.

so i guess emanuel is out of the question and who is this dan birmingham? I have never heard of him

He's Winky Wright's and Jeff Lacy's trainer. Not sure if he still is Lacy's trainer, but he's been with Winky from beginning to end.

The thing with some Boxing fans is that they want to believe that their favorite fighters are invincible but that is not the case. At this point in his career Miguel Cotto needs to step his technical game up in the ring because we all know that he is a polished offensive fighter but that is just not enough when you go against guys that can take that power & pressure away from you. Cotto knows the deal and what's best & that's why the beef with his uncle blew up because his uncle don't want to face the fact that he can only take Cotto but so far and wants to control his career but Miguel is ready to step up.

Obviously Roach, Floyd sr, Steward, Capetillio are out as candidates. I wouldn't want McGirt in my corner if I were Cotto! Robert Garcia is a good trainer what about him?

I AGREE BUDDY MCGIRT SUCK AS A TRAINER!!!! he ruins boxers!!! i think cotto should get nacho cuz they speak spanish or i wonder if Trinidad sr. is open to do it ive never seen him train anyone other than his son.... but i think it would sell more tickets and ppv if he got trinidad sr. that would make it interesting i would actually watch the fight in that case.... this cotto fight dont interest me...

but like i said before i will bet that miguel cotto and cotto's uncle will forgive each other and cottos uncle will be in cottos corner for the fight!!
