WTF? Is there a new WBC rule that says they won't allow unified champions any more? How were Hopkins, Roy Jones jr, Lennox Lewis, Mikkel Kessler, Calzaghe, Zab Judah and countless others exempt from this over all the years?

I am not positive about this but I think I remember something being said years back about whenever a fighter holds one of the three major titles IBF, WBA or WBC PLUS the WBO title that the WBO was to be dropped or else fighter holding one of the big three would be stripped. It had something to do with not wanting another sanctioning body allowed at the coexist with big three.

There was a whole thing about it but don't remember exactly. Can anybody shed some light?

I don't think that any of them held the WBO...in conjunction with any other title. Or did they?

Is the implication here that the WBC will no longer support unified titles and strip whoever decides to maintain other belts? That would seem to be the case, but more than likely it's just another example of deciding to do it in this case only for no reason.

Hopkins held all 4 for about a 3-fight span.

Right. I do remember that...not sure if there was anybody else. Even Naseem Hamed, long time WBO champ. Didn't he have to drop the WBC or get stripped or something.

I am almost positive that there was some unwritten rule that if you held the WBO you were told to drop it or get stripped.

Yea man, I am positive now. Other bodies wouldn't even rate you if you were the WBO 'champ'.

Isn't Kelly Pavlik defending both his WBC and WBO belts against Sergio Mora in June? Hasn't Pavlik been beltholder of both WBC and WBO since Sept 2007 (Pavlik-Taylor I)? Didn't Pavlik defend both belts against Taylor (rematch), Locket and Rubio?

I don't recall Sulaiman and company ever raising their hackles over any of these past Pavlik fights and they appear impervious about any possible violation of their unification "rules" on the forthcoming Mora meeting.
