Of coarse since most welterweights are a lot bigger and stronger than him.

The amount of weight classes don't bother me (well I do think it should start at Flyweight, but that's it)... what annoys me is that there is like 4 world titles per weight class, I think there should just be one.

A great rule would a fighter cannot gain over 5 pounds after official weigh in. If he does the Fight is cancelled

No excuses for fighters like Hatton since he weighs near 160 fight night

The middleweight division would be pretty good.
            Kirkland
            Pavlik
            AA
            Santos
            Williams
            Winky
            Dzinziruk
            Forrest

            LHW would be even better
            Cunningham
            Adamesk
            Dawson
            Hopkins
            Kessler
            Taylor
            Froch
            Bute
            Diaconu
            Cloud

            WW would be even INSAME

Those Cruisers you mentioned wouldn't be there though, they'd be at Heavyweight.

I stand corrected. Also Margarito/Cotto/Clottey/Shane would all have to fight at 160

                And Pavlik/AA move up LHW

How would the Top 10 look like for each divisions. Which fighters would be forced to move down or up
Being an "old-school" eight man this is way boxing ought to be along with no alphabet groups muddying the waters and top fighters fighting more than once or twice a year.

I think the champions would shake out like this:

                  Heavyweight - Vitali Klitschko
                  Light-Heavyweight - Mikkel Kessler
                  Middleweight - Vernon Forrest
                  Welterweight - Shane Mosley
                  Lightweight - Juan Manuel Marquez
                  Featherweight - Israel Vasquez
                  Bantamweight - Vic Darchinyan
                  Flyweight - Roman Gonzales

8 divisions is all fine and good if fighters fought more.

And more championship matches. Can you imagine waiting for 2 champs to fight for half a year in less divisions?

At least with the current scenario however weird it is, we have a ton of different matches at every weight class and a chance to see fights.

With 8 weight classes, all those guys would have to fight a ton more times per year to even be relevant.

And in todays' don't take a chance because you might miss out on the gravy train atmosphere, I think we'd have fewer fights or guys fighting way out of their division to try to make things work.

The different weight classes 105,108,112,115,118,122,126,130,135,140 seem pretty extreme but I can't see a logical way around it.

Seems like we'd see a lot less fights that way.
