Everyone keeps saying that 135 is strong, but to me it looks equal if not weaker than 140.

At 135 you have Marquez (who isn't likely to stay), Guzman (who hasn't even fought in the division yet), Valero (who still hasn't fought anyone World-class) and a host of other decent fighters, but not World-beaters (Diaz, Casamayor, Katsidis).

At 140 you have Hatton (who is definately staying), Pacquiao (P4P number one - although probably moving up), Bradley and a host of other decent fighters, but not World-beaters (Malignaggi, Holt, Torres, Urango, Campbell). It seems a lot of top prospects are coming through at 140 as well - Ortiz most notably.

    I don't see a difference in quality.

On Topic: Good move for Khan. He should outbox Kotelnik with ease and get himself a world title. Warren won't be able to protect Khan much however from now on, thanks to the deal he signed with Sky. There is no chance Sky will let Warren set up anything other than competitive, attractive fights.

I don't see a great deal of difference in quality

Even if he didn't, he would say that he made weight comfortably before a fight, Roach even said he though it was amazing that he made lw and couldn't see him there too much longer.

He probably could have made it for another 6-12 months but he has got himself a good fight, so why wait. To be fair like I said before although he is got a fight with a weaker belt holder now, he will have to stay at world class if he wins, and 140 is becoming quite a strong division
Khan has said AFTER his last 2 fights he made weight comfortably.

I know he wasn't going to stay at Lightweight for his whole career, but are you suggesting that Khan is moving up because he "HAS" to?

It sounds like you are otherwise the weight factors you mentioned shouldn't come into affect.

Paul Williams can fight from 147-160.

A 5lb weight difference is nothing, Khan might win this and then vacate and move back down.

There are too many weight divisions around now, Lightweight and Light-welterweight are basically the same division, I **** 5lb.

are you having a laugh??!! granted katsidis ainl;t the best, but diaz x, cassamyo are decent boxers. you must be deluded if you think khans moves up to 140 becasue of the better apponent. there are more than enough boxers at 135lb that will give khan a fight. IMO he's moved up beause they are struggling to find someone to put him in with taht would spark him out

No, you obviously haven't read my post very thoroughly, I think he would have had to move up within a year, so by this time next year he would have been a lww. So if he can get the title shot now then he may as well move up, I bet you if this fight happens and he wins he will not move back down, no way! 5lb is nothing huh? Try telling that to jose luis castillo, 5lb to a boxer can be a huge difference, I should know seeing as I have competed. There is a very thin line between making weight hard and making weight too hard, and as you get older you tend to fill out more as your body matures and it gets harder

I will be surprised if Paul Williams comes back down to 147, he should not be there, I doubt he'l move back down now.

I agree. I didn't ever say that though. You've made the inaccruate presumption. I didn't say that Diaz or Casamayor weren't decent boxers either, I just said that they weren't absolute World-class. I define World-class a being pound-for-pound material. 140 is at least equal to 135 in terms of talent. Now you could argue that there is talent down at 130 that will eventually move to 135, thus making it a stronger division, but at the moment that isn't the case.

LOL, I agree with your sentiments.

Or we should go back to same day weigh-ins where guys will have to fight at their natural weight. It's dangerous anyway when you have a welterweight like Clottey weighing in at light-heavyweight come fight night, **** is a lot of crap.

He is a massive lightweight, and only 22.Ballsy move as there are a lot of good fighters at 140 and some good ones moving up from 135.Personally,I would rather he had a couple more fights before a world title tilt.Kotelnik, whilst not the best is a pretty tough fighter, and he will last with khan.I could see Khan gassing out down the stretch,so I'm a little worried.

what a ****** move, the guys at 140 punch harder than the guys at 135.

i think khan should atleast grap a alphabet strap at 135 before moving up to 140. the only reason i see for this move is:

                      1) he's running from a stacked lightweight division and his daddy presscott
                      2) he's trying to get a shot at hatton win/lose against pac.
