My bad Mosquera.......
Top 5 as in Pitalua? Was he a worthy opponent because of his ranking in the WBC? Yes, but i mean a top 5 ranked in the whole lightweight division....maybe i'm just being too picky, but i just want to see him fight a real fighter/contender, former or current champ because i want to be sold on him as well. Anyone who brings GREAT attention to boxing is a person i want to see fight.....Last edited by mrlopez; 04-08-2009, 01:45 PM.Comment

The Ring had him at #7, but he was massively over-rated. I'm not saying that because he was beaten, I was saying it before the fight. Pitalua's only decent win in recent years was against Santa Cruz; and Santa Cruz was also greatly over-rated - his only decent performance was against Casamayor in one of the worst, most lethargic performances of Casamayor's entire career. Had there been a rematch, almost everyone would have expected Casamayor to win easily.
The rest of Pitalua's opponents make Valero's opponents look like Hall of Famers in comparison. One of Pitalua's recent opponents had a record of 0-0-0. How pathetic is that? Other recent opponents of his had records of 7-4-2 , 0-3-0, 0-4-0, 0-1-0, 12-10-0, and 27-10-2. How does that earn him a shot at a belt or a #7 rating? It's ridiculous.
Now Valero is rated #3 by The Ring, but he still hasn't fought anyone who could objectively be described as an elite fighter, at any weight. so that rating is crazy as well.
The Ring's ratings are far better and more objective than the alphabet ones, but they're certainly not perfect. They have just promoted Khan to #10 because he beat Barrera - even though that fight should have been a NC, and even though Barrera has never beaten a rated Lightweight and is way past his prime.
Valero needs to fight a genuine elite Lightweight, someone who has proved themselves at the weight. J. Diaz, or Funeka, or someone like that. Even Reyes would be a much bigger test than Pitalua.Last edited by Dave Rado; 04-08-2009, 04:28 PM.Comment

Id like to see Pac vs. Valero as well though these guys seems kind of friends and shows a lot of respect for each other as I've seen him on Pacs recent birthday. I'm a Valero fan too but I think he does like Pac more than JMM, maybe that is why he choose to want to fight Marquez first b4 Pac. I like the idea Arum said that he gotta whup JMM first then Pac. War Valero war

not quite, mi amigo!! i am a JMM fan because he is a real fighter, never a quitter. im ricky's fan as well because of his gangho style where every round is explosive. i like Manny the most because of his triumphs against many greats and that he's still improving after moving 9 divisions north (jr flyweight 106 - welterweight 143).....and valero still doesn't impress me...my 2cents opinion only !Comment
