Im not about to call Jones a defensive genius when he doesnt even have to use defense to avoid being hit. thats like a fighter running away from a big puncher the whole round, and then calling the big puncher amazing just because the other guy landed little to no punches the whole round.
maybe you just didnt see everytime paz tried to pounce forward roy jumped back almost just as fast, roy kept him in his range no matter what pazienza did... paz isnt slow on his feet at all, espeically for 168... roy reacted to every movement he made... it wasnt just because he was "scared"... thats not a mentality pazienza is really known for.

although the fact that he knew he was going to be countered ALSO, definitely played a part.. he says it himself

are you really trying to get into a serious discussion over that little of a comment?

every fighter is 'scared' to a degree, because if they have no fear of getting hit they get tattoed and knocked out, no matter how good their chin is.

point is, its easy to not get hit when your opponent isnt throwing punches, and in no way was Pazienza making an effort to do anything but live through the round. earlier in the fight, Pazienza did make an effort to land punches, and he did much better than the 3rd+ rounds.(although thats not saying much). it just was too taxing for him to keep up, because he was getting hit too much and took up too much of his stamina as well.

nobody ever siad anything about a serious discussion... i was simply disagreeing with your statement about it being basically only fear that made paz not hit roy in that round...

your saying its not a big accomplishemnt because he wasnt throwing any punches anyway, and im saying there is a reason... because roy didnt allow paz to get into his own range on roy... thats all i was saying, everytime paz tried to pounce forward, roy pounced back just as quick... he definitely tried to get in on him, he just couldnt.
