Tyson would never be able to beat holyfield
Do you think Tyson would have Beaten Holyfield in rematch?

It was said that he actually trained for the second fight...not so much for the first. However, mentally, Mike was still messed up and wasn't the same. He had a better chance to win the second time around but if you can't deal with the Real Deal head-butts and low-blows, then what?
The key for Tyson to beat Holyfield, even at both their best, would be body-shots followed by head combos...along with the usual jab and head-movement. Tyson hurt Holyfield bad to the body but he didn't have the proper response to follow up like he used to. That's the big difference between that version of Tyson that showed up against Holyfield and a younger Tyson who was being instructed by Rooney.
Either way, both were best their peak.Comment

Nope he'd attempt to bite Holyfield's ear and get disqualified, oh yeah that's already happened.Comment

You want to know the big difference: Tyson at that point didn't have the same belief he could win, that he was really the best...that he was ready to face the best. That is why he also avoided Lewis and only fought Holyfield because he thought Holyfield was past his best. Tyson was fighting for weed money and to pay back Uncle Sam (and the kids). Or so it is said.
Atlas had a better answer on this about the way Tyson spoke at that point compared to when he was on top (with Rooney). It went from believing you are unbeatable and saying you refuse to lose, refuse to get hurt, to psychologically preparing yourself for the worst by saying you've been poor before and lost before, etc. etc. etc.
Mentally and Physically you must prepare to be at your best. When was the last time Tyson was prepared like that at his best?
He made a lot of costly mistakes.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 04-06-2009, 04:37 PM.Comment
