That article was really childish. One of our generations greats and this is someone who we grew up watching and for someone to make fun of him like that is ridicolous.
EPIC FAILComment

After Mayorga would have been perfect unless it was Tito.

Is that clown serious in his sig?
Rhetorical.
Thats terrible advice and could get one killed unless tried out in the suburbs.
Maybe with numbers but then you will notice only punks start trouble.Comment

Thoughts on this article....
I for one found it amusing, but it seems a good amount of people who frequent the boards didn't. This article was obviously written IN JEST, as in, for laughs and not to be taken seriously. We all know of Oscar's great contributions to boxing as first and foremost a CHAMPION and then as a solid promoter thus far in GBP. I think people nowadays are looking for any reason to be butthurt about something, and personally I believe if you are in the public limelight as a celebrity you have to realize you are going to be the focal point of some crude humor. The fact is Oscar did indeed bring a lot of these things upon him, and he is publicly derided and heavily booed these days for taking on a much smaller guy in Pacquiao thinking it was going to be an easy mismatch for him to go out on top and retire with due to his size and pedigree, only to have it blow up in his face. He did that to himself, and no one saw that coming except for Freddie Roach, and the only reason he took the fight was because he trained Oscar and KNEW he had nothing left to offer Pacquiao. That isn't a great trainer, that's simple logic at its finest. Anyway, that's my two cents. Feel free to add to it.Comment

damn..take it easy on my boy, Greisman. David is one of the best writers in the biz. This was obviously an article intended in jest.
god knows I've written a few on Oscar that were not flattering.
keep it up the good work DPComment

I'd have to say, this article was poorly written and failed hard at being funny.
Oscar looked sickly and poorly trained and I feel that he shouldn't go out like that.
Here's hoping he can go out with a W

The idea behind being a "star" is that you are in a position of great entitlement.
Fact.
But that entitlement also subjects you to lampoon and sattire, which in reality is a form of flattery. If a fighter like Edner Cherry or Antonio Davis was the subject of an article like this, it would not get the attention this one did.
The mere fact that a writer would take the time for some harmless lampoon shows how significant a "star" De la Hoya is.
It is almost the duty of the media to take shots at the people on top of their various industries. To fault one writer is to fault the media at large.
And we don't have that kind of time.Comment
