Kostya was a P4P fighter when Hatton made him quit

Pac-DLH 4 sho. I thought Hatton would beat KT at the time. I thought Pac was a dead man.

Actually Oscar was the dead man.

Hatton made Kostya quit on his stool in a VERY dirty fight in his home town. Hatton was the underdog, whlle Tszyu was the clear favourite and was ranked P4P, but was also 35 years old and inactive. The fight itself was pretty close until it ended.

Pac moved up two divisions, his first time fighting at 147 to square off against DLH. Oscar hadn't made the 147 limit since 2001. But most people thought he'd blow Pac away, all he'd need was one left hook and it'll be lights out for Manny. Pac proceeded to dominate an underweight Oscar from the opening bell and made him quit on his stool.

So I guess the question is what was more UNEXPECTED: A former flyweight, in his debut at welterweight scoring a TKO over an ATG who'd only ever been stopped once before against a fellow ATG at 160? or A prime 140 lber underdog, beating a P4P ranked UNDISPUTED champion??

I'm gonna choose Pac because the odds were stacked heavily in Oscar's favour, the fight was made according to his demands and he believed Lil' Manny would be a cake walk. Granted, he did come into the fight weighing less than he should have, but nobody in their right mind would have predicted Manny to dominate him like he did.

This thread just goes to show how overrated Manny's wins over Diaz and Delahoya are. Prior to those wins everyone was saying Hatton would destroy the smaller Pacquiao. This is good for me though, now maybe Hatton will get credit when he beats another elite P4P fighter. (everyone will just say Manny was gona lose anyways because he was naturally a featherweight)

News flash: Manny is excellent, but he is no Floyd Mayweather.

Tsyzu was the much better fighter at that point. I dont care if most people thought De La Hoya was going to easily knock out Pacquiao, he hadnt won a meaningful fight in forever and looked pretty easy to chop up against Forbes. theres a reason why I thought Pacquiao was going to beat him up.

Kostya may have been at the tailend of his career, but on the night of the fight it was obvious he was still a very good fighter. pressure fighters always had success against Tsyzu, so Hatton was a real bad style matchup for him especially at that point in his career, but that doesnt mean we shouldnt give Hatton credit for the win.

as usual, people exaggerated the size difference between Pacquiao and De La Hoya. I understand that De La Hoya moved down from 154 and Pacquiao moved up from 135, but Pacquiao had been weighing in as a Welterweight since his days at 130lbs, and De La Hoya has always been more or less a blown up Welterweight.
