Where does Trinidad's 'Tito' name come from?

I've been wondering about it for a while. I often flip between calling him "Tee-do" (American style) or just his normal name. But what does Tito actually mean, as far as he's concerned? Is it a name given to him through endearment from the PR fans, or from his family?

Maybe there is, I don't know. But as far as the word "Tito" goes, it doesn't mean anything.

Yea it must be a latino thing....Tito Puente, Tito El Bambino, Tito Guizar, Tito Ortiz, Tito Trinidad...

Here in PR, we have nicknames for proper names
For exaple, people whos name is Felix or Hector, we call them Tito.

Guys whos name is Antonio, we call them Tony or Toņo

Guys whos name is Jose we call them CHeo

And so on!!!!!!!!!
