Pacquiao: Floyd needs tune up before facing me

With talks about Floyd Mayweather Jr. “going unretired”, Manny Pacquiao has shared his thoughts about the return of boxing’s former pound-for-pound king.

There were observations that Mayweather Jr. maybe opting to come out from retirement to challenge Pacquiao, the current ruler of the pound-for-pound list.

Pacquiao said, however, that he thinks it would be wise for “Money” Mayweather Jr. to take it slow once he finally decides to return to the ring again.

"For me -- if I'm Floyd -- I would fight a tune-up fight and then fight me," Pacquiao told Michael David Smith of FanHouse.com. "That's for me, but I don't know what his plan is. He might want to fight me right away."

Mayweather Jr., who retired undefeated following his victory over Britain’s Ricky Hatton in 2007, is rumored to be “itching” to fight again after reportedly suffering money problems.

Among the possible fights he is reportedly asking is one against Pacquiao, his immediate successor in the pound-for-pound ranks.

Pacquiao said he himself believes Mayweather Jr. will indeed come out of retirement.

"I think he's going to fight again," Pacquiao said. "He's not really retired.”

Pacquiao is currently preparing for his May 2 match up with Hatton, which is considered as his ticket for a fifth world title in another weight class.

Hahaha....but does Pac now qualify as a WW since he fought Oscar there and weighs the same as Floyd on fight-night?

But I do agree: I want to see him fight Cotto or maybe Mosley, but more so Cotto. I doubt he would fight Williams if Williams decides to come back down.
Cotto will be bigger for his legacy because Cotto is a legit WW and I think many people have a different view of Cotto's loss after the Margarito controversy. Cotto deserves that fight but he should toss Arum.

I say stay home unless he can turn back the clock and fight the way he used to fight at his best. I'm tired of these boring displays because he is unwilling to fight from round one and put punches together. If he doesn't have the "want" to prove himself, and his hands are messed up, stay retired.

The mosley fight is better than the cotto fight even w/ the plaster controversy.

besides berto/cotto will happen later this year; berto is already prepping for cotto by fighting urango.

Pac has a point, regardless of who you are...after a long layoff like that, you'll need a tune up.

JMM fight would be a great tune up for Floyd.

Mosley may be the better fight but people may bring up the "past prime" aspect to it compared to Cotto.

Wouldn't a fight against Pacquiao be classified as a tune up, before fighting the proper fights at welterweight?
