I wouldn't put Mel Taylor in this discussion as he actually had other substantial wins before and after losing to Chavez. McGirt and AD were both nice wins.

Vassiliy Jirov might fit in this convo though. Two of his best performances (Mesi, Toney) were in losing efforts. Those were also his two highest profile fights in my estimation. He did beat down people like Castro and Arthur Williams, but those guys aren't exactly significant name opponents.
