Robberies and bad officiating in boxing

What do you think is the main cause of this?

    1. Corruption. For example the fight promoter pays the judges to score rounds for the boxer he works for.

    2. Deliberate bias. For example the judges are from the same country/city as one of the boxers, and so they do their best to help him.

    3. Unintentional bias. For example a ref that does his best to be fair and impartial, but he is more familiar with one of the boxers and perhaps gives him the benefit of the doubt in a questionable situation rather than looking at it objectively.

    4. Something else.

Mostly. There's no shortage of that in boxing refereeing and judging, just as in most things that involve people. I'd say the most common reason for 'robberies' are actually no more than close judgement calls that fans of the fighter who lost out disagree with.

I think you have to be very careful when calling 'corruption' unless you actually have something to back it up. It wasn't so long ago that boxing was demonstrably corrupt, and nobody really denied it.

Judges tend to be swayed by the home town product, the crowd and the promise that the promoter will use a judge that favours his fighter.

Julie Lederman and Adalaide Byrd are morons.

Most referee`s are inept a few aside but i the cases of Cortez, Nady, Tilleman it is quite clear they are either total baffoons or corrupt.

There is a lot of "favoritism" too.

What come to mind the most for some reason is the Hopkins v Taylor bouts.

It was no secret that Hopkins and HBO had a very dodgy relationship, and wanted nothing to do with each other.

I mean they were close decisions, but majority people thought Hopkins took both, especially the first one. You cannot help but think, especially regarding the issues after the fight, HBO played their little part in influencing the judges to be Taylor friendly, rather than the usual, 'Champion-Friendly'

Refs like the guy who did the Kostya/Hatton fight had clearly an agenda and was probably swayed by the Hatton corner. No doubt in my mind.

I'd say *most* of the time it's down to incompetence/unintentional bias
