Obviously it's just my opinion, but I honestly don't see how he could have meant anything else. He was talking about the way he wrapped his hands which was a side issue, and was not talking about the pads (which don't get wrapped). The only motive for saying that which makes any sense to me is that he was pretending it was just a hand-wrapping issue and nothing to do with the inserted pads, hoping he'd get away with it. He's hardly likely to mean that he always inserts knuckle pads doctored with plaster - that would be incriminating himself at a time when he was still pretending to be innocent.
