850k PPV sales in the US, plus 1.4 million PPV sales in the UK = 2.25 million PPV sales overall, for the Hatton fight, which is more sales than the DLH fight got. DLH's fans were mostly American, so his fans bought US PPV. Hatton's fans were mostly in the UK and bought UK PPV. But total PPV sales were pretty much the same.

What you're saying is that even if the fight was just offered in the states, it would had made just as much or more than the DLH fight. Think about that for a bit.Comment

Floyd claimed he was the best ww because he was...
UNDISPUTED LINEAL WW CHAMPION OF THE WORLD
he is still the last person to hold that title since he retired...
So if you just won the championship is it wrong to call yourself a champion???
Floyd was the UNDISPUTED WW champion of the world...
MEANING he was the best ww alive.
THOSE are facts not claims
Being the best doesn't just mean winning the lineal title, it means defending it against the top contenders. Several of the top contenders now are considered much better fighters than either Boldomir or Judah were, and he hasn't defended against any of them. That is a fact not a claim.Comment

sure you can, i could right now and could've at the time find two or three other fights mayweather should've took instead of fighting DLH and baldo. but i don't think that fighting those guys were all that bad, it was the marketing and the hype, the packaging if you will, that is what really made those fights bad, that and the fight action............
if those fights were set up fights and not touted, speaking about the DLH fight, but touting the fight as the fight that is going to save boxing when actually it ran boxing into the ground. people don't like paying top dollar to watch a glorified sparring session....... the baldo fight had to happen, but again, it was a forgettable performance, so forgettable that half the crowd started leaving before the 7th round....... half of the hollywood crowd that was there sitting front row, packed up and left...........
all the while, mayweather could've either put on better shows, and stopped both guys, or at least beat them up, plain and simple he could've fought better opposition, maybe someone who would actually challenge him. even if mayweather could beat everyone he's ever faced or faces, people still want to see an exciting fight, people still want to see a struggle, a challenge, they don't want to see someone who is classes above his competition and coasts to points victory with no excitement in the fight......
too many fighters been trying to get fights with floyd, all to have been said that they ducked floyd, i doubt that, it's been abundantly clear floyd picks and chooses who he fights very carefully, throwing caution into the mix is not anything close or near to how floyd picks his opponents... all the while, when floyd was still an active fighter, everyone waited to try and land a fight with floyd, which stagnated the most exciting weight classes, because everyone was holding out for a fight with floyd, and who suffered, us the ticket paying ppv paying fan, the boxing fan took the hit the most, the guys, us, who fund this sport........... since floyds departure, better match making has taken place, fights are being made and with more frequency too........
mayweather didnt kill boxing, he just ******ed it for a short stint, now boxing is slowly making a come back.......
side note:
and sad to say, but with a slumping world economy, i think boxing is going to come back stronger and be a more revered as it was back in the 1920's and 1930's, mainly because, it's going to be a way for people to make some cash without an education and without a trade......... just like then, it was a way out of poverty or at the very least a way to put food on the table....... i think it's going to get back to that...... i hope so, but for our future sake as people, i hope not as far as the economy is concerned.........Comment

Boxing need to be put back on free tv with top stars fighting each other all the figters you talked about will never never big big superstar like we had with guys from the 20's - 80'.
IMO The main reason why boxing is not as big as it was back then is that boxing was a Sport where the best fought the best because they want to prove to everyone who was the best and it was not about the money. Now that boxing has become a business it mostly money and who can i fight to make the most money. IMo this is what hurting boxing and you can't put all that on PBF because it start change from a sport to a business long before he came to the top.Comment

Get real.
Being the best doesn't just mean winning the lineal title, it means defending it against the top contenders. Several of the top contenders now are considered much better fighters than either Boldomir or Judah were, and he hasn't defended against any of them. That is a fact not a claim.
When JMM beat Casamayor for the Ring LW belt, was he automatically the best WW? Obviously not. Whats funny is reading Floyd fans say that because Floyd was the lineal champ at WW he was the best WW. But when JMM became the lineal LW champ, he needed to fight Nate Campbell to prove he was the best LW. How ridiculous is that?Comment

The Author of the article is right that Mayweather is the biggest US draw. I think the post here have kinda gone off tangent though. It seems like many people here are trying to say that Fans didn't support Mayweather Hatton because of the Oscar fight. Mayweather-Hatton was a successful PPV and I doubt anyone could have done those numbers in the US with Hatton. As far as him retiring early I get it but its over exaggerated what fights he left behind at the time. He left behind a great match-up in Cotto that should have taken place. The other names thrown around are done more as afterthoughts than the reality of the situation at the time.
If he fights Pac at 140, that would be great as well (but not instead of - at least one of Cotto or Mosley is more important for his legacy than Pac); but if his fans are saying he's not a natural Welterweight, then he has no excuse for fighting Pac at 147 or 144, IMO, he should fight him at 140.
Marquez doesn't have the frame or the track record to be considered a legitimate opponent above 135 at this point. Fighting him above 135 now would be okay for a tune-up fight but not for his legacy, unless Marquez beats a top 140 pounder first, and even then, the fight would have to be at 140 to be considered a legacy fight, IMO.Comment

How can you compare PPV sales for 2 fights when one fight only had ONE market open for purchase? thats ******.

The thing that gets me about people who hate PBF is that...
At the end of the day, Who do you work for? If you were a cashier at a super market, do you scan those items to make those customers happy or to pay your bills? Do you clock in to make your manager happy or do you clock in to take care of your own responsibilities? Im pretty sure you wouldnt give a **** if someone complained about another store having tomatoes on sale for 38 ct a pound while your store had them on sale for 45 ct. And from the customers stand point if you didnt like it then dont shop there.
All of these people who hate floyd for not fighting this guy or getting in a slug fest with this guy are not being real with themselves. He does what he has to do to win, not to make you or me happy. If he didnt want to risk his ability to make money to make us happy nobody can be mad at him for that. Its like being mad at football team because they have a ood defense and rely on it to win games and dont half to score much.Ask yourself this: Would you risk your job to make a customer happy? If you did you would be dumb because if you were fired do you think that customer gives a fucc? Will they pay your bills and feed your kids?
He does what he does to get paid. End of story. You and I would do the same thing in his shoes. You dont like it, dont watch it.Comment
