The fans didn't come back because they weren't impressed with his prior performance(s), or they felt Hatton would be overmatched meaning they would have liked to see more meaningful matchups which were available.

    The fact remains,

the people didn't come back when the star was shining its brightest on him.

It doesnt matter if WE appreciate his style because we're hardcore fans because we don't keep the sport in the mainstream, casual fans are the reasons fights are on PPV and when you promise an all action fight with a climatic ending and you step in the ring and do absolutely the opposite, then you got a lot of pissed off customer who aren't satisfied with their service.

Proof of this was the 1.7 million peolple that DIDNT buy Hatton/Mayweather. Fights like Hopkins/Wright and Mayweather/De La Hoya/Baldomir shouldn't be PPV fights.

      Very accurate post.

to you it may be a terrible point but it has happen before and it will again some people only would watch a fight just to see a fighter lose and when they dont they just come up all kinds of excuses.

Or people simply didn't like being lied to about the product they were being sold.

The funny thing is, Floyd actually delivered with a KO in the Hatton fight.

Again, we're talking about the casual fan here who expects their fighters to be Mike Tyson. Floyd promised that and didn't deliver when the brightest lights were on him. They don't know much of Floyd to tune in just to watch him lose. 24-7 was the first time most had ever heard of him.

I AGREE WITH YOU BUT I WAS STATING THAT EVEN SOME CASUAL FANS WHO SAW 24/7 LOOKED AT THE WAY HE ACTED AND DID NOT LIKE HIM AND WAS HOPING HE WOULD LOSE TO GUYS LIKE HATTON AND THE GOLDEN BOY. IT LIKE THE HOLMES VS CONNEY FIGHT THE REASON WHY THAT FIGHT WAS A BIG SELL WAS BECAUSE OF RACE ALOT OF PEOPLE BROUGHT THAT FIGHT CAUSE Cooney considered "the great white hope" and the best white heavyweight since Rocky Marciano

The Author of the article is right that Mayweather is the biggest US draw. I think the post here have kinda gone off tangent though. It seems like many people here are trying to say that Fans didn't support Mayweather Hatton because of the Oscar fight. Mayweather-Hatton was a successful PPV and I doubt anyone could have done those numbers in the US with Hatton. As far as him retiring early I get it but its over exaggerated what fights he left behind at the time. He left behind a great match-up in Cotto that should have taken place. The other names thrown around are done more as afterthoughts than the reality of the situation at the time.

I remember the build up when Floyd was talking all kinds of **** about how he was a warrior and he was going to go toe to toe with DLH. I knew it was all bull**** but most casual fans tuned in to see this supposed toe to toe war. And it turned out to be anything but, Floyd tyurned a fight with DLH boring something we had never seen before.

I always felt the Oscar has been exciting. I didn't find the Mayweather fight boring by any means. Its not like Floyd ran from him though. He just didn't throw lots of punches when they were engaged in the middle when Floyd had the advantage. I did think Oscar would have turned up the heat and mix up because he was the bigger man and had punchers chance. I just wish Oscar let his hands go when they were in the middle of the ring more. He did when they were on the ropes. They both should thrown more I guess.
