How do you see De La Hoya's career?

do you give the man respect or not? thats what im wondering. He fought for money, but who doesn't these days. At least he fought Elite fighters time after time, and really, he didn't duck nobody in my opinion. In his prime, he would cause a big problem to any ATG at 147-154.
But how do you see his Boxing career. not his personal life when he wore girl clothes, because that **** is hilarious, but has nothing to do with boxing.

He quit on the stool, but so did Chavez, and Duran quit in the middle of a round, and they are both top 25 ATG in many peoples list.
He did lose a lot of his big fights, but he always performed.

So how do you respect de la hoyas carrer or not? reasons why or why not

Fantastic career. He fought the best out there for the most part, even if many of them were for the money. Gotta respect that.

I don't really respect him much as a person or business man though

i agree, even tho he fought the best, he did take a lot of money outta customers pockets. The Dream Match could have had a WAY BETTER undercard.

Nothing but respect for the opposition he has faced and I could tell you straight up, that no fighter in this era could have possibly gone threw his resume undefeated. He may have gotten gifts (Strum, Ike, Whitaker) and robbed (Tito, SSM II) but he was very competative in those bouts

I respect his career for what he achieved, and fighting the best out there... of course he had a god career, though I think he may have taken one fight too many... or he shouldn't have agreed to fight Pacquiao at 147 because in all fairness all due respect to Pacquiao it was a great win and all but you could tell De La Hoya wasn't the same, he was either shot or past it (maybe both).

In this case I clicked so-so, because if he retires now then it basically means he has retired on a low rather than a high... which could put a slight shadow on his career. Though now I have thought about it a little bit more I wished I clicked respected, because regardless of his last performance he has had a very good career, fought the best... and achieved a lot, so I have basically changed my mind to respected rather than so-so.

I lost a lotta respect for him over the Pac thing, but other than that his career was pretty solid.

                It's definitely in between.

There are idiots who say that he lost every big fight and doesn't have that much of a career. He beat Camacho, Chavez twice, Whitaker, Quartey, Vargas, Leija, etc.

There are also people that swear he has been robbed up and down but ignore decisions like Whitaker and Quartey, which are just as close as some of the ones he lost.

He's a good fighter, but he is a bit limited, and did lose as many big fights as he won.

The only thing that is flawless about him is that he always, ALWAYS fought the best fighters regardless of what was going on with his career.

LOL. We call the Pernell and Ike fights gifts now? Wow. Close fights that could have gone either way, sure. But gifts? GTFOH.

To be fair, I've seen people score it for Trinidad and Mosley 2 as well (not just the official judges).

I thought there was no way Quartey could have lost their fight.

Whitaker didn't do enough to make a true robbery claim, but... it was definitely close.

I have never seen anyone score the Sturm fight for ODLH though... except the 3 official judges. Even Oscar's post-fight interview screamed that he knew he lost... even if he said he thought he won at the end after demonizing his performance for 5 straight minutes.
