Floyd Sr. : Says "Speed is Nothing but Timing"
Collapse

It is correct, he isnt saying it in that sense, but rather since boxing is science and you cant throw a right hand or left hand and still magically have that same hand back for defense at the same time. In other words timing does disrupt speed in the sense that when a person throws a punch, no matter how fast they are they are left open to receive a punch.
Unless youre knocked out very early, throughout a fight good fighters can adjust to this and pick up mannerisms of a fighter and capitalize, it happens all the time. Reason why I always say speed doesnt win fights....unless the other fighter cant adjust to it.
Apologies for bringing drums back into it. You can tell me to STFU if you like, I won't be offended.
Bottom line: I don't think Hatton has the ability to time Pacquiao and use it to nullify his speed.

I understand the point, but I am not convinced Hatton has that ability to adapt and time Pacquiao's syncopated, fast rhythms. To me, Manny doesn't have a consistent, predictable pattern to his style. As a fighter, he is the closest thing to a freeform jazz drummer playing a solo where the accents are all over the place. Ricky is like a rock drummer playing 4/4's in comparison. Pac is in and out so quick, and before you know it, you've been stung and he's standing by your side, slightly out of range and ready to make the next move. I'd imagine it's a very difficult style to beat. It's what made Calzaghe so hard to beat for a fighter such as Jeff Lacy. Joe also has that unorthodox weirdness going on and gets in and out fast.

Hatton ain't good at timing though. lol
And against a fighter who can move in and out, can circle , who throws blistering straight punches in a southpaw stance with head movement....................gooluck with your timing.Comment

If you watch Pac, he is best when his target isnt moving, hard to find a fighter that didnt just stand in front of him, but fights where guys pushed him back, he doesnt look good, that's Hatton's strong point coming forward, not saying Hatton will win as I hope he doesnt.
Regarding Pac not being effective on the back foot, it's true to a certain extent, BUT he did manage to deck Morales while being chased down and on the ropes, so he can be effective at times.

Pacquiao loves to brawl and can apply just as much pressure as Ricky. The best thing Manny can do is hit Hatton hard very early on. He needs to gain Ricky's respect from the very first round. This will make Ricky slightly more apprehensive and make him think twice about trying to walk him down like he did with PM. Malignaggi couldnt hurt him, so nothing he did was effective. Someone such as Urango who hits harder gained Hatton's respect and forced him to clinch often which broke up the action. Urango just didn't have the skills to capitalize on the situation though.
I doubt Many is worried about what Hatton brings, to be honest. he knows Ricky will rush him and be in his face applying pressure. No doubt Manny and Roach have come up with the best strategy to counter Hatton's style.
