Tyson was erratic, no doubt. But to keep fighting till the end in two of the most brutal beatings (Douglas, Lewis) takes some kind of heart. If you're gonna discredit him for the fights you've named at least credit him for these.

      Kevin McBride-Danny Williams-Evander Holyfield 1 and 2

he bit holyfields ear because he knew he was going to take another pounding

he quit against mcbride for no reason

he did not want to get up against danny williams

the typical bully if you can take his best punch and fight back he would quit

please dont bring up ruddock fight

ruddock was not fighting back tyson was just pounding on him for 10 rounds

i thought so too... but 80s tyson was a beast

Buster Douglas, Holyfield 1, Ruddock 1 and 2 and Lewis. Tyson showed heart in every one of those fight.

he was beaten by Douglas in some of the rounds got beck and knocked hin down. Rudduck hit him with some very hard shots and ghe won both fights. He didnt give up against Holyfield in the first fight, the judge did that

Actually, Tyson cannot be considered in his prime at that point. Tyson's prime would have to be placed from when he won the title up to Spinks. And Tyson from Berbick to Spinks continued to improve which makes it fun to watch. He's one of the best fighters to watch from start to finish. You see an incredible increase of technical skill from his first pro fight to Spinks, and then a sudden decline when he stopped training properly. A good lesson to students on what to do and what not to do.

Both Tyson and Rooney acknowledged Tyson's worries about going the distance. Tyson had yet to go past the 6th round. In that fight, once Tillis got to a certain point, Tyson eased off the gas because he was worried he wouldn't have enough in the tank to go the distance. As the rounds continued on, one after the other, and it finally got to the last round, Tyson's confidence started to grow and by the end, he had matured as a fighter. He knew he could go 10 full rounds and said he felt it wasn't so bad and that he did have the stamina to go the distance. It's all mental he used to say. This is where EXPERIENCE comes into play. Remember, he didn't have that many amateur fights and was mostly doing on the job training as a pro. He was still quite young and inexperienced for such a hyped fighter.

Now, go to his very next fight against Mitch Green and watch the difference. Tyson enjoyed himself in that bout and it went the distance again. But this time, unlike the last time, Tyson was improved and had more confidence.

I think both fights were a must for Tyson in order to go for the title. What happens when he is on the Championship level and has yet to go the distance?

I'm sure we can go through a list of "Great" fighters that had trouble with certain fighters while on their rise to the title.

Tillis was 31-8 when he fought Tyson by the way.

so he gave up having pride in himself as fighter when douglas taxed his ass?
