In fairness Roy only fought maybe 3-4 actual bums. People act like Virgil Hill is a bum etc., no hes not a world beater, but he was a good fighter.

Hopkins fought a few bad fighters too, they all do. But Hopkins fought alot of tough opponents aswell.

    They both did great.

He gassed himself out after nearly getting the job done. 2nd fight taylor had a completely different mind set and tried to out box the guy and was defensive and timid as he didn't want to get KO'd again.
You cant act like Pavlik is just as good at 170 as he is at 160... you cant do it....

You know what, I agree with that. I tell you what, Taylor really impressed me in that rematch. But I can't shake how unimpressed I was with Pavlik that night.

Why doesn't the head-to-head factor come in to play here? It's like it doesn't count because Hopklins wasn't as good back then. Roy outclassed him in a 12round snoozer. Not his fault. They were both young, what more could you want?

No, he's not a world beater? Hope you're still around when Hill marches into the Hall of Fame.

Who do you think had a better legacy.

me i think Hopkins surpassed Jones the last couple of years by doing more in his 40's, which is his past prime, which shows that he is a great fighter. In his prime, he was undefeated for a decade. shows that in his prime he was unbeatable.

let me hear what you think.

and im not asking who you think would win prime for prime.
RJJ imo this isn't even worthy of debate, hopkins is one of those fighters who has faced fighters who were always not quite in their right weight division. whenever he did face fighters in the right weight division he lost (RJJ, calzaghe, taylor). the fights with winky, DLh, tito and even pavlik you could argue were against blown up fighters and the fight again tarver was against a dried out weak version of antonio tarver.

RJJ is a legend man he ranks just outside the top 10 bernard arguably doesn't even make the top 50.

why because he got schooled by bhop? Listen, pavlik fights the exact same each and every fight! he only looks better when his opponent gets stretched out. He looked exactly the same to me when he fought rubio then he did against Taylor II and Bhop, only difference is he was fighting a corpse that wasn't willing to throw back.

A few pounds in boxing means very, very little and honestly, pavlik is much more natural at LHW (like I mentioned, the plan was for pavlik to move up in weight since he was struggling so badly to make 160). I agree that pavlik is better at 160, but that's because the 160 division sucks and Pavlik is a pretty damn big middlweight as it is.

LOL. Dude should've done a little research before making the thread.

"I'd like to make a thread discussing Jones and Hopkins. No, I don't know much about their resumes but I can pretend!"

Nah, no disrespect dde but come on, man...
